Yesterday we had our friend Tania, who lives in Glasgow, visiting us so we decided to go for a little morning walk before going for a lunch in the pub.
Hier, nous avions notre amie Tania, qui vit à Glasgow qui nous rendait visiter donc nous avons décidé d’aller faire une petite randonnée le matin avant d’aller manger au pub.

As it has been a while since we went to Ullswater, it was time for a visit so we decided to try this walk that I found in one of my walking books. The walk starts from Patterdale village and goes to Silver Point before turning back using the path at the bottom of Place Fell summit.

The path is very large until Silver Point and offers beautiful views on Ullswater Lake. Then the path becomes rockier and goes up to reach the bottom of Place Fell summit and allow to admire the beauty of this hidden valley. It is a great short walk with a bit of challenge.

Unfortunately it was very windy yesterday so we couldn’t enjoy it has much as we wanted but it was still nice. After the walk, we decided to stop for a lunch at the Inn on the Lake in Glenridding, which was lovely.

My wife and I have not been on that walk, but we have walked tothe top of Place Fell. See link below. I particularly like photo no. 13 with my wife looking into the far distance. We were also surprised, but pleased, to see the Swiss Alpine club badge on the Alpine hut wall in Patterdale.

It is nice that you walk to Place Fell. I will do it one day when our son is older. I was also surprised to see the Alpine hut. It is a nice building.

It’s a lovely part of the world, Melodie, though not always the best weather xx

The weather is indeed the issue. It is very beautiful with the sun, just annoying that we have a lot of rain but wouldn’t be the Lake District without rain.

I have done that walk Mél and I did find the path by Silver Point a bit rocky, I think the extra visitors since the Ullswater Way started becoming popular has worn the path more. The views of Ullswater are lovely though 😀

The path along the shore is very wide and well maintain definitely due to its popularity. The other one is a lot rockier. It is a lovely area of the lake district isn’t it.

This looks a great walk. It’s a shame it was windy, so you didn’t get to enjoy it as much.

Thank you. That is the issue living in the North of England unfortunately and this winter has been quite windy as well. Let’s hope spring and summer is better.

Thank you for this very informative post, Mélodie. It looks like the weather cooperated for the most part, even though it was misty and overcast as well as windy. Beautiful photos.

This is such a beautiful lake and a walk, and I love how it is surrounded by stunning mountain scenery. Hiking in windy conditions can be challenging and it can make it feel much colder than it actually is. Thanks for sharing, and have a wonderful day 🙂 Aiva xx

Thank you Aiva. I agree the wind can be tricky sometimes, especially as Marcus is in the backpack so he feels the cold more than us.

I haven’t done that walk, though we have walked at Ullswater before. Glenridding was incredibly busy last time we were there.

I haven’t done a lot of walk around Ullswater. Every time we go, I tell Matt that we should go more often. Looks like Glenridding is always very busy.

It’s been a while since I last visited the Lake District. This looks like a very scenic route, and a pub lunch to finish is always welcome!

You need to plan a trip soon then Rosie. I agree, it is always great when the walk finishes near a pub.
