Last Sunday we decided to introduce Skye to fell walking as he is now 1 years old. Until now, we had only done flat walks with him to not damage his joints. So we decided to do this walk that comprises Stile End (447m), Outerside (568m) and Causey Pike (637m) summits. Outerside and Causey Pike summits are two Wainwright.

As I like the village of Braithwaite, we decided to start the walk from there and go first to Stile End. We weren’t sure if we wanted to do the three summits and thought “let’s start with the smallest one and see how Skye will react”. As you can guess from the title of the blog post, Skye absolutely enjoyed going to the first summit. So we decided to continue the walk as the weather was as well not too bad.

After Stile End, we took the direction of Outerside summit and then Causey Pike. The little scrambling section at the top of Causey Pike didn’t perturb Skye at all. We went down Causey Pike by Sleet Hause and then took the path above Stoneycroft Gill. Once at Stoneycroft we decided to go to Stair as I wanted to follow the river Newlands Beck back to Braithwaite. I had done a nice walk following that river some years ago and I wanted to show it to Matt. However, the path following the river has been damaged during the recent storm and is now closed. So from Stair we followed the road up to Swinside and then Little Braithwaite before joining the public footpath to Braithwaite.

After the walk we joined our friends for a late lunch at Lingholm kitchen in Portinscale.

I like the view in the bottom photo and I’m glad Skye enjoyed the walk, there’ll be no stopping him now 🙂

It is a nice one. To be honest after the first summit it is not too hard.
He goes clearly faster than me up and down hill 😂.

Great area for walking, love the Newlands Valley. I’m staying in the old Swinside Hotel next summer with family and we are looking forward to going to the Lingholm Kitchen for some food and walking in the area.
