Finally, after 3 ½ years in England, we went to visit London. For me it was my first visit to the English capital but Matthieu had already been there when he was young with his school.

Finalement après 3 ans et demi en Angleterre, nous avons enfin mis les pieds à Londres. Pour moi c’était ma première visite de la capitale anglaise mais Matthieu lui y avait déjà été quand il était jeune avec le collège.

For this short stay, we booked two Airbnb. One where we spent the first night just Matthieu and I and the second where we spent two nights with friends who joined us from France. Both Airbnb were located in Dulwich village, which is located in South London.

Pour ce court séjour, nous avions réservé deux Airbnb. L’un où nous avons passé la première nuit juste Matthieu et moi et le second où nous avons passés deux nuits avec des amis qui nous ont rejoint depuis la France. Les deux Airbnb étaient situes dans le quartier de Dulwich village, qui se situe dans le sud de Londres.

That first night we decided to go for a walk to get some exercise after driving from Cumbria. Since we were not far from Greenwich quarter, we decided to visit it and see if we could find a nice restaurant for the evening.

Ce premier soir, nous décidâmes d’aller nous promener à pied pour faire un peu d’exercice après avoir conduit depuis Cumbria. Vu que nous n’étions pas très loin du quartier de Greenwich nous eûmes envie d’aller le visiter et voir si nous pouvions trouver un restaurant sympa pour le soir.

Greenwich is a district in South West London, famous for its Greenwich Park, Greenwich Market, one of London’s finest, and the Cutty Shark Tea Clipper and the Greenwich Observatory. There are a lot of things to see and do in Greenwich, unfortunately as we went in the evening everything was closed. But we still enjoyed walking along the Thames, watching the sunset over the City and we had a good overview of the activity of this place.

Greenwich, est un quartier au sud-ouest de Londres, qui est célèbre entre autres pour son parc royal (the Greenwich Park), son marché (Greenwich Market) qui est un des plus beau de Londres, son musée maritime contenant le clipper Cutty Shark et l’observatoire de Greenwich. Il y a donc énormément de choses à voir et à faire à Greenwich mais malheureusement, vu que nous y sommes allés en soirée tout été fermés. Nous avons quand même pu, nous promener le long des berges de la Thames, profiter du coucher de soleil sur la City et avoir un bon aperçu de l’animation de ce quartier.

We really liked the relaxed, family, and lively atmosphere of this neighbourhood. There were families playing ball on the esplanade, couples having a drink on the edge of the water and excitement in the surrounding bars / restaurants. The walk along the quays was pleasant in this month of April and we could have spent hours walking around. But the fatigue of the trip and the hunger reminded us to look for a nice vegetarian restaurant.

Nous avons vraiment aimé l’ambiance à la fois relaxé, familiale, et animé de ce quartier. Il y avait des familles qui jouaient au ballon sur la grande esplanade, des couples qui prenaient l’apéro en bordure de l’eau et une effervescence dans les bars/ restaurants environnants. La promenade le long des quais été agréable en ce mois d’avril et nous aurions pu passer des heures à nous promener. Mais la fatigue du voyage et la faim nous rappela à l’ordre et nous décidâmes de partir à la recherche un petit restaurant végétarien.

After some research on Happy Cow website, I found The Full Nelson restaurant. This small bar / restaurant on the edge of Greenwich quarter was a wonderful find. On the menu a lot of delicious vegetarian burgers, all also available in a vegan version, and succulent British and European beers. The background music was also nice and Matthieu wanted to ask them for their playlist. This meal concluded our first evening in London.

Après quelque recherche sur le site internet Happy Cow, je trouvais le restaurant The Full Nelson. Ce petit bar/ restaurant à la limite de Greenwich fut une merveilleuse découverte. A sa carte de délicieux burgers végétariens, tous également disponible en version végétalienne, et de succulentes bières anglaises et européennes. La musique de fond était également sympa et Matthieu eu envie de leur demander leur playlist. Ce repas conclut notre première soirée à Londres.
