This year the beginning of May was absolutely beautiful. We had 25 ° C for 3-4 days which is not very usual for us. That weekend, because I had to go down to Manchester for work, I took the opportunity to visit a friend and go on a girl hike in the Peak District.

With Matthieu we had been to the Ladybower reservoir several times and liked it a lot, but we did not do the left side of the reservoir. So, when my friend suggested me to do this hike starting along the reservoir and going to Alport Castle I was immediately seduced. The only problem with Ladybower is the number of people so you have to go early to find a parking.

This hike begins with a small climb through the forest. Once on the plateau, the path is quite flat and well-marked. Then it goes down again through a forest before going along the banks of the reservoir. The hike is accessible to all the family and is unpopular. The view from Alport Castle is beautiful and stretches out of sight. It’s a nice hike to do the only downside would be the few miles on the bitumen at the end.

Here are the steps to do this hike:

• From the car park take the path that climbs through the forest. Follow it until you come out of the forest and come to a crossroad at the top of the climb. Take the path on the right following the edge of the forest. Continue straight on until you reach a road.
• Cross the road then take the opposite path. At a stone wall, go through the wall and continue straight for a long time until you reach Alport Castle.
• Just after Alport Castle, where you see several signs take the right path that goes down. Continue straight ahead, pass the forest then at the road turn right. Continue straight on until you reach the car.

Cette année le début du mois de Mai a été absolument magnifique. Nous avons eu 25°C pendant 3-4 jours ce qui n’est pas très habituel pour nous. Ce weekend-là, vu que je devais redescendre sur Manchester pour le travail j’en ai profité pour aller voir une copine et faire une randonnée entre fille à Peak District.

Avec Matthieu nous étions déjà allés au barrage de Ladybower plusieurs fois et avions beaucoup aimé mais nous n’avions pas fait le côté gauche du barrage. Ainsi quand ma copine me proposa de faire cette randonnée qui part du bas du barrage et va en direction de Alport Castle je fus tout de suite séduite. Le seul problème avec Ladybower c’est le monde et il faut donc y aller assez tôt pour trouver un parking.

Cette randonnée commence par une petite montée à travers la forêt. Une fois sur le plateau, le chemin est assez plat et bien marqué. Puis elle redescend à nouveau à travers une forêt avant de longer les berges du barrage. La randonnée est accessible à toute la famille et est peu populaire. La vue depuis Alport Castle est magnifique et s’étend à perte de vue. C’est une randonnée assez agréable à faire le seul petit bémol serait les quelques kilomètres sur le bitume qu’il faut faire à la fin pour rejoindre la voiture.

Voici les étapes pour réaliser cette randonnée :

• Depuis le parking prendre le chemin qui monte à travers la forêt. Le suivre jusqu’à sortir de la forêt et arriver à un croisement de chemin en haut de la montée. Prendre le chemin sur la droite qui suit la lisière de la forêt. Continuer toujours tout droit jusqu’à arriver sur une route.
• Traverser la route puis prendre le chemin en face. Au niveau d’un mur de pierre, passer le mur et continuer toujours tout droit pendant un long moment jusqu’à arriver à Alport Castle.
• Juste après Alport Castle, au niveau des panneaux prendre le chemin de droite qui redescend. Continuer toujours tout droit, passer la forêt puis au niveau de la route prendre à droite. Continuer toujours tout droit jusqu’à la voiture.
