A day visiting York – England

This year we decided to go back there because Matthew’s parents were visiting us and also because I wanted to know if York was worth visiting it. It was in the middle of February so we thought that there would probably be fewer people and that we would have the chance to see more than people stomp on the streets to enter in the shops / pubs.

Do you know York? What do you think of this city?

  1. Nice photos and description. It’s many years since I visited York, but I did enjoy the ramparts. Probably my favorite part was that the friend I stayed with had a house on the river and the ground floor was largely empty because it flooded on a regular basis! Not something to concern the average visitor though.

  4. I regret to learn that York has become a victim of its own popularity. My own experience there won’t be a fair comparison. I loved the city and rambled around on a week day, starting very early in the morning. But that was 1971. By coincidence that year York celebrated 1,000 years since it was founded. Apparently it’s been not only “founded,” but “discovered” in the ensuing 47 years. Some excellent photos, for which I thank you. And that matcha macaroon looks wonderful.

      1. Your comment assumes I maintain extremely clear memories of the impressions of a 19 year-old backpacker. Not a reasonable assumption, but I would like to see MANY parts of England again, and plan to (I HAVE been back to England since, just not to York).

      2. I am sure everything will come back to you if you go there. Some places or events will trigger your memory. If you could come back to England where would you like to go?
