This walk crosses the Arnside and Silverdale Natural Park which is classified as Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty AONB. We have met this appellation during our visits to the Isle of Anglesey, but also in Wales and the forest of Bowland, near Lancaster. There are 46 places in UK that are listed as AONB. This walk follows the coast for a while and offers a breathtaking view over the bay of Morecambe. It is fairly easy, only the climb to the top of Arnside Knott can be a little tiring but the view from the top is well worth the effort.

Here are the key steps to make this hike:

• From the parking, along the promenade take the path that runs along the beach. Follow it until you arrive to some swamps and a kind of campsite. Just before the entrance of the campsite you will see a sign showing the direction of Blackstones point. Be careful this road is only accessible in low tide if you are there at high tide take the direction of Far Arnside.
• Follow the path to blackstones point then once arrived at the tip, take the path that goes up towards the cliff. Follow this road to Far Arnside.
• Once arrived at Far Arnside and after crossing a second campsite full of mobile homes head towards Silverdale and Silverdale cove. You will cross a third campsite.
• After arriving at Silverdale Cove follow the road that goes to the village of Silverdale then follow the direction of Jenny’s Point.
• Once at Jenny’s Point go back in the opposite direction and cross the village of Silverdale and cross the campsite. But this time at the top of the campsite follow the direction of Arnside Tower.
• Once arrived at Arnside Tower, cross the farm and go up to the national road and take the road in the direction of Arnside Knott.
• Follow it up to the summit and then go down to the village of Arnside.

If you do not want to do the whole walk you can once arrived at Far Arnside go back in the direction of Arnside Knott and Arnside village. This is the part of the walk that I liked the most and it is around 8 km.

Cette randonnée traverse le parc naturel d’Arnside et de Silverdale qui est classé comme Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty AONB. Nous avions déjà rencontré cette appellation lors de nos séjours sur l’île d’Anglesey, au Pays de Galles et dans la forêt de Bowland, près de Lancaster. Il y a 46 endroits en UK qui sont répertoriés comme AONB. Cette randonnée suit pendant un bon moment la côte et offre une vue imprenable sur la baie de Morecambe. Elle est assez facile, seul la monté au sommet de Arnside Knott peut être un peu éprouvante mais la vue depuis le haut vaut largement l’effort.

Voici les étapes clés pour réaliser cette randonnée :

• Depuis le parking, le long de la promenade prendre le sentier qui longe la plage. Le suivre jusqu’à arriver vers des marécages et un genre de camping. Juste avant l’entrée du camping vous verrez un panneau prendre la direction de Blackstones point. Attention ce chemin est uniquement accessible en marée basse si vous y êtes en marée haute prenez la direction de Far Arnside.
• Suivre le chemin vers blackstones point puis une fois arrivé à la pointe prenez le chemin qui remonte vers la falaise. Suivre ce chemin jusqu’à Far Arnside.
• Arrivez à Far Arnside et après avoir traverser un second camping plein de mobile homes prenez la direction de Silverdale and Silverdale cove. Vous allez traverser un troisième camping.
• Une fois arrivé à Silverdale Cove suivre le chemin qui va jusqu’au village de Silverdale puis suivez la direction de Jenny’s point.
• Une fois à Jenny’s Point repartez en sens inverse et traverser le village de Silverdale et traverser le camping. Mais cette fois ci en haut du camping suivez la direction de Arnside Tower.
• Arrivé à Arnside Tower, traversez la ferme et remonter jusqu’à la nationale et prenez le chemin en face en direction d’Arnside Knott.
• Montez jusqu’au sommet puis redescendez vers le village d’Arnside.

Si vous ne souhaitez pas faire la totalité de la balade vous pouvez une fois arrivé à Far Arnside partir en direction de Arnside Knott et Arnside village. C’est la partie de la marche que j’ai le plus aimé et cela doit faire dans les 8 km.
