Beginning of September we spent a week all inclusive in Magic Pirate Island resort on the outskirts of Benidorm in Spain. This was not our typical holiday but as life is very busy with full time jobs and a toddler, we thought it will be nice to relax for a week and enjoy playing with Marcus in the pool.

Début septembre, nous avons passé une semaine en tout inclus à l’hôtel Magic Pirate Island dans la banlieue de Benidorm en Espagne. Ceci n’est pas le type de vacances dont nous avons l’habitude mais vu que nous sommes assez occupé entre des  travails à plein temps et un enfant en bas âge, nous avons pensé qu’il serait bien de se reposer pendant une semaine et de profiter de jouer avec Marcus dans la piscine.

We had never been to an all inclusive hotel before, we usually prefer renting a place or exchanging our house and go exploring. So we weren’t sure if we would like it. After some research only we came across Magic Pirate Island resort, around 10km out of Benidorm. This resort opened in April 2025, so they didn’t have reviews when we booked it but the description looked inviting. What attracted us in particular was their lodges and the unlimited access to Aqua Natura and Terra Natura parks.

Nous n’avions jamais été dans un hôtel tout inclus car nous préférons normalement soit louer un logement soit échanger notre maison et partir explorer. Après avoir fait quelques recherches en ligne nous sommes tombés sur l’hôtel Magic Pirate Island qui se situe à environ 10km de Benidorm. Cet hôtel a ouvert en Avril 2025 et il n’y avait donc pas de références lors de notre réservation mais la description de l’hôtel nous a plût. Ce qui nous a attiré en particulier fût leur lodge et l’accès illimité aux parcs de Aqua Natura et Terra Natura.

Additionally, it was a short flight from Manchester to Alicante (~2h30), which was perfect for Marcus first time in a plane. As we booked with Jet2holiday (again a first for us), transfer from the airport to the resort was included. I have to say that it was nice to not have to drive. Also, as it was an early flight (7am), Jet2holiday offered the twilight check-in which allowed us to register and leave our luggage at the airport the night before. This was very convenient as in the morning we didn’t have to worry about our luggage and could go straight to the security gates.

De plus, le vol est assez court de Manchester à Alicante (~2h30), ce qui était parfait pour Marcus qui n’avait jamais pris l’avion. Vu que nous avions réservé sur Jet2holiday (aussi une première pour nous), le transfert de l’aéroport à l’hôtel était inclus. Et je dois dire que j’ai bien aimé ne pas avoir à conduire. Le vol étant tôt le matin (7h), Jet2holiday nous a permit de faire l’enregistrement des bagages la veille. Ce qui était très bien et nous a permit de le matin d’aller directement à la sécurité sans nous soucier de nos valises.

The journey to the resort went smoothly and we arrived at the resort around 1 pm. A Jet2holiday staff member welcomed us and gave us more information about the resort. After the check-in, as our lodge wasn’t ready, they offered us to put our luggage in a secured room so we could wander around the resort. We decided to go to the restaurant to have our lunch before testing the pools. They have changing rooms by the luggage room, which was very convenient as we were able to change into our swimsuit and go for a swim. Our lodge was ready around 5pm and the resort staff brought our luggage directly to the lodge. Everything was well organised so we were able to enjoy the resort facilities directly from arrival.

Le voyage jusqu’à l’hôtel c’est très bien passé et nous sommes arrivés vers 13h. Un employé de Jet2holiday nous attendait pour nous accueillir et nous donner toutes les informations sur l’hôtel. Après avoir reçu les clés du lodge, vu qu’il n’était pas prêt, la réception a mis nos valises dans une pièce sécurisé ce qui nous a permit d’aller explorer l’hôtel. Nous avons décidé d’aller manger avant d’aller tester les piscines. A côté de la pièce pour les valises, il y avait un vestiaire ce qui était parfait pour se changer et aller se baigner. Notre lodge fût finalement prêt vers 17h et la réception y amena directement nos valises. Tout était très bien organisé ce qui nous a permit de nous sentir en vacances dès notre arrivée.

Our lodge was right by the battleship pool as we paid a little extra to have a hot tub on the terrace. The lodge had two bedrooms (one with king size bed and one with a bunk bed), one bathroom and a little living room/kitchen with fridge, microwave, coffee machine, kettle and hob. As we were all inclusive we didn’t need to cook but the kitchen was still useful to warm Marcus’ milk in the morning or have a cup of tea/coffee while waiting for the restaurant to open for breakfast. The lodge was nice and comfortable with enough storage spaces for our belonging. We also had a little terrace with an outside sofa and hot tub. The entertainment in the afternoon were all happening on the stage by the battleship pool which meant that I could enjoy some live music whilst beginning in the hot tub.

Notre lodge était en bordure de la piscine Battleship et vu que nous avions payé un petit extra, nous avions un jacuzzi sur la terrasse. Le lodge contenait deux chambres (une avec un grand lit et une avec deux lits superposés), une salle de bain et un salon/cuisine avec un frigo, micro-ondes machine à café, bouilloire et plaque électrique. Nous n’avons pas utilisé la cuisine car nous étions en tout inclus mais c’était quand même utile pour réchauffer le lait de Marcus le matin ou se préparer un café/thé avant l’ouverture des restaurants. Le lodge était assez confortable et jolie avec assez de placard pour stocker nos affaires pendant une semaine. Nous avions une petite terrasse avec un canapé d’extérieur et le jacuzzi. Les animations de l’hôtel se situaient l’après midi en bordure de la piscine Battleship ce qui faisait que depuis le jacuzzi je pouvais profiter de la musique en direct.

There were three pools in the resort and as part of our all-inclusive package we had unlimited access to the water park just next door. The biggest pool in the resort is the battleship one which contains two big boats with several water slides in. The water is slowly going from shallow to 1.40 m deep which is great for kids and adults. The second pool is the Kraken pool which is more a splash pool for toddlers and children. It has plenty of games in it perfect for the little ones. Finally the last pool which is more a private one as it is reserved most of the day to the lodges that are around it, is the lagoon. It is more a adult pool with a bar in it. We mainly used the Kraken and battleship pools which we found great and Marcus absolutely loved his time doing “plouf” (as he said) in it.

Il y avait trois piscines dans l’hôtel et inclus dans notre forfait nous avions un accès illimité au parc aquatique juste à côté. La plus grande des piscines est la Battleship qui contient deux gros  navires de pirates avec plein de toboggans. La profondeur d’eau augmente doucement jusqu’à atteindre 1.40m, ce qui est parfait pour les enfants et adultes.  La seconde piscine, la Kraken, est la piscine pour les enfants avec pleins de jeux et peu profonde. Parfaite pour les plus petits. La troisième, le lagon, est plus une piscine pour les adultes car elle contient un bar. Elle est aussi réservé la majorité de la journée pour les lodges qui la borde. Nous avons utilisé en majorité la Kraken et la Battleship que nous avons trouvé bien et Marcus a adoré faire des “plouf” (comme il dit) dedans.

The resort has two restaurants (one being reserved for the ultra VIP), a tavern and several small bars by each pool and the reception. We mainly used the buffet style restaurant, the tavern and the bar by the battleship pool. As we had never been to an all inclusive before we were a bit afraid that the food might not be good and too repetitive. But I have to say that we were really impressed. There was plenty of choice at each meal, the food was fresh and tasty and they even had  local wines in bottle. In the evening they had live music by the tavern so when Marcus wasn’t too tired we will stop there for a cocktail/ beer before going to bed.

L’hôtel a deux restaurants (un réservé pour les clients ayant le forfait ultra VIP), une taverne et plusieurs petits bars au niveau de chaque piscine et réception. Nous avons principalement utilisé le restaurant buffet, la taverne et le bar à côté de la piscine Battleship. Nous n’avions jamais été dans un hôtel en forfait tout inclus donc nous avions un peu peur que la nourriture ne serait pas terrible. Mais je dois dire que nous avons été agréablement surpris. Il y avait beaucoup de choix à chaque repas, la nourriture était fraîchement préparé et délicieux et ils avaient même des bouteilles de vin local. Le soir, il y avait des groupes de musiciens à la taverne et quand Marcus n’était pas trop fatigué nous nous arrêtions pour un cocktail/bière avant d’aller au lit.

The resort had plenty of entertainment options from gaming rooms, to foam party in the pool and evening shows. Having a 2.5 years old with us we didn’t try everything, especially the evening shows as they were late. However we still enjoyed our week there. The resort was great, the staff was very friendly and most of the families on holiday were Spanish. It was nice to hear Spanish talked everywhere. Being on the outskirts of Benidorm, the resort had a total different atmosphere. It was quieter, more relaxed and family orientated. Even though all the lodges were occupied we never felt crowded and there were also always sunbeds available by the pools. We also had great views on the surrounding mountains and Benidorm city.

L’hôtel avait plein de choix d’activités et d’animations allant d’une salle de jeux vidéos, à des parties de mousse dans la piscine et des spectacles le soir. Ayant une enfant de 2.5 ans avec nous, nous n’avons pas pu tout essayer, surtout les spectacles le soir car ils étaient très tard. Mais nous avons tout de même beaucoup aimé notre semaine de vacances. L’hôtel était très bien, le personnel très accueillant et la plupart des familles étaient Espagnoles. C’était agréable d’entendre parler espagnol partout. Étant a l’extérieur de Benidorm l’hôtel avait une atmosphère tout autre. C’était calme, relaxant et orientée famille. Même si tous les lodges étaient occupés, nous ne nous sommes pas senti les uns sur les autres et il y avait toujours plein de transats de disponible au bord de la piscine. Nous avions aussi de très belles vues sur les montagnes environnantes et la ville de Benidorm.

Yes we will. It was lovely to not have to think about cooking or cleaning as we usually do during our holidays. It was also nice to not have to drive to go to the resort or Benidorm or to visit Algar waterfall (more in a next post). We could like that just focus on playing with Marcus and read/relax. We loved having a lodge and we will definitely try to find other resorts with lodges. Matt and I agreed that a week – max 10 days will be the right duration for us but definitely not longer and once a year will be our maximum as we still love our more adventurous holidays.

Oui définitivement. C’était agréable de ne pas avoir à penser à cuisiner ou nettoyer ce que nous faisons d’habitude en vacances. C’était aussi bien de ne pas avoir à conduire jusqu’à l’hôtel ou Benidorm ou lors de notre visite des cascades d’Algar (plus dans un autre article). Nous avons pu comme ca juste nous occuper de Marcus, jouer avec lui et nous reposer et lire. Nous avons aimé avoir un lodge et c’est quelque chose que nous rechercherons si nous faisons d’autres vacances comme ça. Matt et moi sommes d’accord que une semaine – max 10 jours est la bonne durée pour nous et définitivement pas plus long et au max une fois par an car nous aimons aussi nos vacances en mode aventure.

On the side of Magic Pirate Island resort was Terra Natura park and being all inclusive we had unlimited access to the park. We went twice during our week there to be able to see all the animals. The park has a wide selection of animals from monkeys, birds, and reptiles to big animals like elephants, rhinos and lions. They also have some live shows and experiences and a great toddler playground area and adventure trail for teenagers. The park works with a lot of conservation programs around the world to protect the animals and their habitats. Most of the animals in the park were rescued and are now living the end of their life in a safer environment. Marcus loved watching the animals with the rhinos being ones of his favourite.

A côté de l’hôtel Magic Pirate Island se trouve le parc animalier Terra Natura et avec notre forfait nous avions accès illimité au parc. Nous y sommes allés deux pendant notre semaine pour pouvoir voir tous les animaux. Le parc a une grande variété d’animaux avec des singes, oiseaux et reptiles mais aussi des animaux plus gros comme des éléphants, des rhinocéros et lions. Ils ont des spectacles et des expériences, un parcours d’aventure pour les adolescents et une aire de jeux pour les enfants. Le parc travail avec plein de programme de conservation autour du monde pour protéger les animaux et leurs habitats. La plupart des animaux du parc sont des rescapés qui vivent la fin de leur vie en sécurité. Marcus a adoré observer les animaux et surtout les rhinocéros qui étaient ses préférés.

On the other side of Magic Pirate Island resort was Aqua Natura park and again as we were all inclusive we had unlimited access to the aquatic park. We went one afternoon there and while Marcus and I splashed in the main lagoon pool, Matt tried most of the water slides. The aquatic park has several water slides of different levels; however most of them are from 12 years old plus. There are also a splash pool and a lagoon pool. Marcus was too young to do most of the things and I am not really keen in water slides so we preferred to use the resort pool. But the aquatic park is really good for older kids/teenagers so definitely worth it if you have kids of that ages.

De l’autre côté de l’hôtel Magic Pirate Island se trouve le parc aquatique Aqua Natura et de nouveau nous avions un accès illimité. Nous y sommes allés un après midi et pendant que Marcus et moi profitions de la piscine principale, Matt essaya la plupart des toboggans. Le parc aquatique a plusieurs toboggans de différents niveaux mais la majorité sont autorisés au plus de 12 ans. Il y a aussi une piscine pour les petits. Marcus étant trop petit pour faire la majorité des activités et n’étant pas fan de toboggans nous avons juste utilisé les piscines de l’hôtel. Mais le parc aquatique est très bien pour des enfants plus âgés/ ados donc définitivement à faire si vous avez des enfants dans ces âges.

The resort was offering a free bus shuttle service to Benidorm so on two occasions we took it to go once to Levante beach and another time to the old town.

L’hôtel met à disposition un bus gratuit pour aller à Benidorm. Nous l’avons pris deux fois pour aller à la plage de Levante et visiter la vieille ville.

We enjoyed Levante beach which is a long sandy beach with shallow water. Marcus enjoyed playing with us in the sand and water. The water temperature was also very nice. However around midday people started to arrive and it was becoming more and more crowded. I imagine that in summer it must be full of people and not as enjoyable as in the low season. Additionally tall buildings border the beach which I found oppressing. I was very happy that we didn’t book a room in one of these hotels as I don’t think I would have enjoyed the experience.

Nous avons bien aimé la plage de Levante qui est une longue plage de sable fin avec de l’eau peu profonde. Marcus a adoré jouer dans le sable et l’eau. La température de l’eau était très agréable. Mais vers midi de plus en plus de gens commencèrent à arriver et la plage devenait surpeuplé. J’imagine qu’en été elle doit être pleine de monde et ce ne doit pas être aussi agréable qu’en basse saison. De plus la plage est bordée de bâtiments très haut ce que j’ai trouvé très opprimant. J’étais contente que nous n’avons pas réservé une chambre d’hôtel dans l’un de ces immeubles car je ne pense pas que nous aurions apprécié nos vacances.

The second time we went, we visited the shopping streets and old town. The streets were very busy and after roaming around we walked towards the old castle. The castle is not really impressive, however the views from it are really nice with on one side Levante beach and on the other side Poniente. Some little streets in the old town were nice but several shops were closed. Again I felt very oppressed in the city with these tall buildings everywhere.

Pour notre deuxième visite à Benidorm, nous sommes allés visiter les rues commerçantes et la vieille ville. Les rues étaient remplies de monde et après avoir visité quelqu’unes, nous sommes allés vers le vieux château. Le château n’est pas tellement impressionnant mais la vue est très belle avec d’un côté la plage de Levante et de l’autre la plage de Poniente.

Overall we enjoyed our week all inclusive in Magic Pirate Island resort. The mountain villages nearby are nice and worth a visit. It also looks like there are some great hikes to do. We didn’t really like Benidorm city but the beach was nice early morning.

Dans son ensemble, nous avons apprecié notre semaine tout inclus à l’hôtel de Magic Pirate Island. Les villages dans les montagnes étaient très jolis et méritaient une visite. Il semblerait qu’il y est aussi plein de randonnées à faire. Nous n’avons pas aimé la ville de Benidorm mais la plage était agréable tôt le matin.
