End of June, we received some friends from France for the weekend. The Saturday afternoon we brought them to Ennerdale water and on the Sunday we decided to bring them to Ravenglass. We have done several walks starting from Ravenglass but we are still discovering new ones.
Find all the information to walk around Ennerdale here.

That day starting from the village of Ravenglass, we walked through Ravenglass to join the beach. It was a bit chilly but not too windy and we hope that the weather would stay like that for the entire walk. We then joined the England Coast path to follow the river Esk. We then passed under the Eskmeals viaduct to go towards Muncaster. Leaving the shore of the river Esk, we decided to go left and continue towards Newtown Knott.

The views from Newtown Knott are absolutely incredible and well worth the effort to walk up. We then finished our walk, passing by the old roman bath and the La’al ratty train. It is a short walk but full of interest. Perfect for a half day wander in family.

This looks like a beautiful spot to go for a walk. And how fun to share the experience with your friends. Despite the grey skies, the scenery still looks beautiful.

Ah feels ages since I last went to Ravenglass. Is there still an honesty box shed that sells ice cream in the village?

No worries! We have some Algarve friends with a home in Lancashire and they’re always suggesting we visit in summer, when it’s too hot here. Never say never!

This looks like a wonderful walk especially as you can see the old Ravenglass Roman bath. I think it’s amazing that these Roman structures have survived in northern Britain. Thanks for sharing, and have a good day 🙂 Aiva xx

Thanks Aiva, I agree with you it is amazing that there are still remains. I don’t think our modern buildings will last that long.

Lovely coastal/riverside walk with views of the mountains. Looks good even under grey skies. I think that’s a very quiet part of the Lake District. Did you see any other people during your walk?

Nope we didn’t see anyone. It is very calm this area which is nice.

We have walked from Eskdale to Ravenglass. We followed the Esk Trail which runs from Boot (Dalegarth) through the beautiful countryside via Muncaster Fell and Muncaster Castle entrance, down the hill to Ravenglass. We caught the La’al Ratty train back as our paws were sore.

We haven’t done that walk yet but it is on our list for the future ☺️. Thank you for visiting my blog.

I like reading about one of my favourite places so to see that you enjoy it too, is a bonus. Sometimes I think the area around Eskdale and Ravenglass is over looked although that can be good thing too as it is very quiet and peaceful. The La’al Ratty is good fun and an excellent way to get from the base of Hardknott Pass to the coast.

It is nice to still have some area in Cumbria that are not too touristic. I haven’t taken the La’al ratty yet, again something on my list of things to do. Too many things, not enough time 😔.
