I have been wanted to visit Ravenglass since we moved to Cumbria. I had read several blog posts from Sharon on her blog Sunshine and Celandines and in particular this one that was talking about Ravenglass and the Eskmeals natural reserve and it had made me wanted to visit this village.
This Saturday, we finally decided to go to Ravenglass even though the weather was a bit uncertain. As we are in January, we easily found some space to park the car on the main street that goes into Ravenglass centre. We didn’t really have a walk in mind when we arrived there so we just decided to follow the signs of the England Coastal Path and to see where it will bring us.

So from Ravenglass we took the direction of Saltcoats, then decided to follow the path until its end on the shore of the river Irt. Currently, there is no means of crossing the river by using the coastal path so we turned back to go back to Ravenglass. Once again in Ravenglass, we decided to explore a little this village before heading back home.
We enjoyed this nice little and easy walk even though some parts were a bit muddy. The view on the river Esk estuary is beautiful and the atmosphere was slightly magical with the mist and sun illuminating the sand and sea.

Thank you for the mention!
I am glad you enjoyed Ravenglass. It’s a sleepy place but we always find it charming. It looks atmospheric in your photos. X

I seem to remember the train from Ravenglass into Eskdale heads along the River Irt as well so I can imagine its a nice walk along the coastal path part, looks very moody in your photos

Taking the Ratty to go to Eskdale is on my list of things to do 😉.
The sun was fighting with the clouds to shine which gave this weird atmosphere.

Yes we managed to escape the rain and it was even a bit sunny at the end. Trying to make the most of this winter.

“There’s no bad weather, only inappropriate clothing”. Don’t actually agree with that but there is a grain of truth in the statement,

Vastly different weather to when I was there in early July last year but at least you made the most of the day.
I did a lovely circular walk which passed the Roman ruins and came back along the shore, if you don’t mind me posting the link you can find it here if you’re interested –https://mousehouselife.wordpress.com/2021/07/26/ravenglass-a-walk-in-two-parts/
If you do go back to Ravenglass sometime then have a look for the little shop along the main street through the village, it’s easy to miss and not always open, the inside is what I would describe as a quirky mess 🙂
