Some months ago, I decided that I would like to walk the part of the England Coast Path that passes in Cumbria. We have already done the section from Whitehaven to St Bees so now I am looking for walks to complete the whole Cumbria coast.

Il y a quelques mois de cela j’ai décidé que j’aimerais faire toute la portion du England Coast path qui passes en Cumbria. Nous avons déjà fait plusieurs fois la section entre Whitehaven et St Bees et donc je cherche maintenant des randonnées pour faire toute la côte de Cumbria.

As you might know by now if you are a regular reader of this blog, I am not really keen in linear walks and much prefer doing circular ones. This is because I am too lazy to plan a mean to travel back by public transport to the starting point and  I don’t really like walking back using the same path. So hopefully I will manage to find circular walks to complete all the sections of the Cumbria coast.

Comme vous pouvez le savoir si vous lisez régulièrement mon blog, je ne suis pas très fan des randonnées linéaires et je préfère largement faire des randonnées circulaires. C’est parce que je suis trop fainéante pour planifier un moyen de retour et aussi parce que je n’aime pas utiliser le même sentier à l’aller et au retour. J’espère donc que je vais réussir à planifier des randonnées circulaires tout le long de la côte de Cumbria.

This walk was the last one we did before I had to stop walking due to my pregnancy. I think I was around 36 weeks pregnant when we did that one.  I was looking for a walk starting from St bees and after looking at the map I plotted this easy walk.

Cette randonnée est la dernière que j’ai faite avant d’accoucher. J’étais à environ à 36 semaines de grossesse quand nous l’avons faite. Je cherchais une randonnée qui commence de St Bees et après avoir regarder la carte j’ai créé cette randonnée assez facile.

The walk starts at the end of St Bees beach and follows the England Coast path until reaching the village of Coulderton. We saw several houses along the beach between St Bees and Coulderton and were wondering if it would be nice living so close to the sea. But then we thought about the practical: are they able to insure their house with that high risk of flooding, what are the damages the salt causes to the houses, cars, etc. At the level of Coulderton, the walk leaves the coastal path and goes inland through fields to go back to the starting point. The walk is easy but still lovely as it is possible by clear day to see the majestic Isle of Man and also the fells of the Lake District. It is not really popular and we didn’t see anyone along the path.

La randonnée commence à la fin de la plage de St Bees et suit le England Coast Path jusqu’au niveau du village de Coulderton. Nous avons vu plusieurs maisons le long de la plage entre St Bees et Coulderton et nous nous demandions si ça serait bien de vivre aussi proche de la mer. Puis nous avons pensé au côté pratique de la chose: comme par example est il possible d’assurer les maisons avec ce haut risk d’inondation, quel sont les dommages causés par le sel sur la maison, voitures, etc. Au niveau de Coulderton, la randonnée quitte le sentier côtier et part à travers les champs pour repartir en direction du parking. Cette randonnée est très facile mais est tout de même très agréable car par beau temps il est possible de voir l’île de Man, la côte Sud de l’Ecosse et les montagnes du parc national du Lake District.
