Happy New Years to you all!

Mid-december, we decided to meet our friend Tania for a walk in Scotland. As she lives in Glasgow, we had decided last year to try to meet every couples of months between Glasgow and Cumbria for a walk. Unfortunately, we did not have the opportunity to do it as much as we wanted. The first walk we did with her was around the Falls of Clyde in New Lanark Village. For this second walk together, we decided to meet in Annan as we were afraid that any small countryside roads will be very icy.

I had found this walk in Country Walking magazine and decided it will be a great one for a winter day. This circular walk starting from the village of Annan follows the river of the same name up to the village of Brydekirk and then goes back to Annan using the Annandale Way.

It is a very easy walk as it is flat and do not necessitate a lot of navigation skills. Also perfect for dogs as 90% of the walk is on footpaths. However, in winter the path can be a bit icy, so be careful.

The walk offers beautiful views on the Scottish countryside and the small weird on the river. It also passes through great woods. It is a lovely place in winter so I imagine in summer it must be great to walk there and maybe have a dip in the river.

It definitely made us want to discover more about the area around Annan.

Do you know this walk or the Annandale Way? Any walks in that area you recommend?

      1. I don’t remember any that day, but certainly elsewhere in the area we did, especiallybluebells (we were there for a long weekend). Are the remains of the footbridges gone now? There were two swept away in the previous winter’s storms and they were lying in the river in May.
