Three years ago, we went for a long weekend in Edinburgh and discovered a little bit of this beautiful city. For this Christmas, my mother came to spend a few days with us in Cumbria and as she was landing in Edinburgh, we decided to stay two days there to visit with her.

Il y a trois ans de cela, nous étions allés passer un long weekend à Édimbourg et avions découvert un petit peu de cette belle ville. Pour ce Noël, ma mère est venue passer quelques jours avec nous en Cumbria et vu qu’elle atterrissait à Édimbourg, nous avions décidé de rester deux jours sur place pour visiter avec elle.

Because on the saturday, we only had the afternoon to visit we went to Leith area. Leith is a harbour north of Edinburgh at the mouth of the Water of Leith River and the North Sea. This district mixes both an authentic atmosphere of a former fishing village with its multi-coloured cottages by the water, its narrow streets and an industrial atmosphere with its docks where huge ships dock.

Vu que le samedi nous n’avions que l’après-midi pour visiter nous sommes allés dans le quartier de Leith. Leith est un port au nord d’Édimbourg à l’embouchure entre la rivière Water of Leith et la mer du nord. Ce quartier mélange à la fois une atmosphère authentique d’ancien village de pêcheurs avec ses cottages multicolores en bordure d’eau, ses rues étroites et une atmosphère industrielle avec ses docks où accostent d’énormes porte-containers.

We started our visit with a fish and chips at The Fishmarket restaurant in the port of Newhaven. I had watched a documentary on the BBC some time ago in which they recommended this restaurant. The fish was absolutely delicious, well cooked and tender in the mouth, a real treat.

Nous avons commencé notre visite par un fish and chips au restaurant The Fishmarket au port de Newhaven. J’avais regardé un documentaire sur la BBC il y a quelques temps de cela dans lequel ils conseillaient ce restaurant. Le poisson était absolument délicieux, bien cuit et fondant en bouche, un vrai régal.

After that, we went for a walk along the harbour and to see the Royal Yacht Britannia from the outside. This yacht is the former ship of Queen Elizabeth II and was in service from 1954 to 1997. It is now berthed at the Ocenia shopping centre and is open to visitors.

Suite à ça, nous sommes allés nous promener le long du port et voir de l’extérieur le Royal Yacht Britannia. Ce yacht est l’ancien bateau de la reine Elizabeth II et fut en service de 1954 à 1997. Il est maintenant accosté au centre commercial Ocenia et est ouvert à la visite.

After this discovery, we returned to the B&B to rest in preparation of the long day of visit that awaited us the next day.

Après cette découverte, nous rentrâmes au B&B afin de nous reposer pour la longue journée de visite qui nous attendait le lendemain.
