I continue my series of article on Portugal with this hike we did along the coast between Armação de Pêra and Praia da Marinha. This hike allows you to observe the cliffs that fall steeply into the water. The contrast between the blue of the water and the red / orange of the soil is superb. It is an easy hike because there is not much ascent, but you have to be careful of the heat because there is no water point and no shade along the path.
The path follows the coast for most of the time and there is just a little detour to do by the multiple hotels to reach the church of Praia da Senhora da Rocha. It is also possible to do the round trip from Armação de Pêra to the church which is about 5km. If you go to the beach you will need to plan your way back. We had asked Matthieu’s parents to come and pick us there.
It is really a beautiful hike if you have the opportunity.
It’s ages since we were along this way. I remember one February when we were hailstoned upon those clifftops! No shelter, as you say 🙂 🙂 Glorious this week so maybe a good time. I’m ‘borrowing’ this for my walks as I don’t have many this week.
