This weekend the weather was absolutely beautiful. Temperatures were around 0 ° C but with blue sky and bright sunshine. So, we decided to go for a hike on Saturday and on Sunday.

The one I am talking about today took us up to Seathwaite tarn from the village of Seathwaite. The roads were frozen that day and access to the village was not easy. There were around 5 cars in the car park, and we saw only about 10 people in the day. I do not know if this place is very touristy in summer because it was the first time, I went but in any case early December it was very quiet.

This hike is quite easy because the path is wide, well indicated and goes up gradually to the tarn. Once at the top it is possible to go down using the same path or following another path through the fields, which is the option we chose.
It is also possible to go around the lake. We also tried but the path was note very visible and it was frozen so by prudence we turned back.

Even though this hike does not go very high it still offers magnificent views over the surrounding valley. It is a walk accessible to all.

Here are the key steps to do this hike:

-From the car park turn right on the road that goes up. Pass the church and continue straight.
Turn right towards Turner Hall Farm. Then continue on the trail through the fields until you reach a road.
Take right, continue straight and then cross the bridge on the left and continue straight on seathwaite tarn road to the tarn.

-At the tarn follow its concrete wall side, pass the two small metal doors and take the path on the left that goes down through the plain. This area is marshy, and it will be necessary to pay attention in places not to sink. Continue zigzagging across the fields always going right towards the road.

– Once on the road turn left, then continue for about 500m before taking the path on the left which goes towards High Tongue. Continue on this trail for a while until you reach Thrang cottage, then cross the river to get to Tongue house and a road. Turn right on this road and continue straight ahead, passing cottages before reaching Walna Scar Road.
-Take right at this road intersection, then left towards the road that goes down at the other road intersection. Continue straight on this road until you reach the car park.

Do you know this place in Lake District?

      1. The Borrowdale one is the wettest place in England!
It’s also the start for walks up Great Gable and the Scafells if you fancy a short (!) stroll 😉
