At the end of August we spent a long weekend in the south of Loch Lomond in Scotland. This is our third visit to the Argyll and Bute area. The first time we visited the coast near Oban and did a boat trip to see the islands of Staffa and Iona. Last year we went to the famous summit of Ben Lomond. This time it’s the other side of Loch Lomond and the Firth of Clyde we visited.

Fin août, nous sommes allés passer un long weekend dans le sud de Loch Lomond en Ecosse. C’est la troisième fois que nous allons dans la région d’Argyll and Bute. La première fois nous avions visité la côte près d’Oban et avions fait une journée en bateau pour voir les îles de Staffa et d’Iona. L’année dernière nous sommes allés faire le fameux sommet de Ben Lomond. Cette fois-ci c’est l’autre côté du loch Lomond ainsi que le Firth of Clyde que nous avons visité.

We decided to visit the Geilston Garden because it was near where we stayed and being members of the National Trust, we use our trips around UK to discover their properties.

Nous décidâmes d’aller visiter le Geilston garden car nous ne logions pas très loin et étant membre du National Trust nous profitons toujours de nos voyages pour découvrir leurs propriétés.

We arrived at the opening around 10am and except the gardeners and the lady at the reception we were the only ones wandering in the alleys of this garden. Geilston garden is around 200 years old. It is divided into three parts: the kitchen garden, the forest and the wall garden with a magnificent redwood in its center. Every parts surround the old house of the Geils family which is unfortunately not open to visitors.

Nous arrivâmes à l’ouverture vers 10h et excepté les jardiniers et la dame à l’accueil nous étions les seuls à déambuler dans les allés de ce jardin. Geilston garden a environ 200 ans. Il est découpé en trois parties : le potager, la forêt et le jardin mural avec en son centre un magnifique séquoia. Le tout entoure l’ancienne maison de la famille Geils qui n’est malheureusement pas ouverte à la visite.

After visiting the garden and observing the various plants, herbs, vegetables and fruits that grow there, we went to discover the small woods along the river with its waterfalls and bridges. Then we went back to the main garden which is surrounded by a large stone wall where various flowers and plants flourish. We ended the walk with a stop at the shop, where we bought some vegetables from the garden freshly picked. It took us about 1 hour to visit taking our time.

Après avoir visité le potager et apprécié les différentes plantes, herbes, légumes et fruits qui y poussent, nous allâmes découvrir le petit bois en bordure de la rivière avec ses cascades et ponts. Puis nous remontâmes en direction du jardin principal qui est entouré d’un grand mur en pierre où diverses fleurs et plantes s’épanouissent. Nous terminâmes la promenade par un arrêt au magasin où nous achetâmes quelques légumes du potager fraichement cueillies. Il nous a fallu environ 1h pour visiter le domaine en prenant notre temps.

This garden is quite small but still very pleasant for a walk and perfect for a quiet break and enjoy the freshness of the undergrowth. The fact that it is possible to buy garden products is also very interesting. It was a beautiful discovery.

Ce jardin est assez petit mais tout de même très agréable pour une promenade et parfait pour une pause au calme et pour profiter de la fraicheur du sous-bois. Le fait qu’il est possible d’acheter les produits du jardin est aussi très intéressant. Ce fut une belle découverte.
