Binsey

Binsey is a small fell north of the Lake District National Park, and that’s why it’s often shunned. It takes a little less than an hour to get to the top. The slope is gentle and the path clearly visible. It is a fairly easy hike but still offers beautiful views of the Lake District peaks and the Solway Coast.

It is possible to climb and descend by the same path or following this circular route. The only negative point of this hike is the crossing on two roads. I do not necessarily like to walk on the road but the first one is small and not too busy. So, it did not bother me too much although the part on the national road was a bit painful, but it only takes about 200 meters.

This hike is short enough for a half day in summer or a short winter day or with people who do not like walking too much.

Au sommet/ At the top

Here are the steps to realise this hike:

  • From the car park cross the national road, continue for a little while and take the path on the left that goes through a tree alley. Follow the path straight to the top of Binsey.
  • On the top of Binsey go down by the opposite path until the road.
  • At the road, turn right and continue straight on. Pass a farm then a small hamlet and take a right towards the national.
  • At the national road turn right then cross it and continue straight to the car.

Have you ever done this walk?
