Some time ago we hiked around Loweswater Lake and we thought it would be nice to go back and do the peaks around it. So, for this hike we decided to visit the heights of the lake by passing between Carling Knott and the Holme Forest. The trail overlooks the entire Loweswater Valley and allows you to see Crummock Water. It is quite large path, in good condition and well indicated. There is just a small climb after the farm after that it is quite flat. Dogs are allowed you just have to keep them on leash at certain passages because you have to cross fields with animals. It is possible to do this hike with children who like to walk because it is not too hard and short enough.

Il y a quelques temps de cela nous avons fait une randonnée au tour du lac de Loweswater et nous nous étions dit que ça serait bien d’y retourner et de faire les pics aux alentours. Ainsi pour cette randonnée nous avons décidé de visiter les hauteurs du lac en passant entre Carling Knott et la forêt de Holme. Le sentier surplombe toute la vallée de Loweswater et permet de voir jusqu’à Crummock Water. Il est assez large, en bon état et bien indiqué. Il y a juste une petite montée après la ferme a passer puis après c’est assez plat. Les chiens sont autorisés il faut juste les garder en laisse à certains passages car il faut traverser des champs avec des animaux en libertés. Il est possible de faire cette randonnée avec des enfants qui marchent bien car elle n’est pas trop dure et assez courte.

Voici les étapes clés pour faire cette randonnée:

• From the car park take the path towards High Nook Farm. Pass the farm by its left side then continue straight through the fields. Once in the valley, cross the river and take  right on the path that goes uphill above the forest.
• Follow this trail for a long time. It will go up, down and arrive at a junction. Take the one on the right (do not go towards the main road) which goes through fields and along a stone wall.
• After arriving at an asphalt road turn right and follow this path. It passes in front of several small farms. Turn right at Jenkinson Place and right again at Hudson Place.
• Arrived at the last farm turn left to the path that goes through the forest Holme and along the edge of the lake. Follow this path to the car park.

• Depuis le parking prendre le sentier en direction de High Nook Farm. Passer la ferme par la gauche puis continuer toujours tout droit à travers champs.
• Une fois arrivée au creux de la vallée traverser la rivière et prendre à droite sur le sentier à flanc de la colline qui passe au-dessus de la forêt.
• Suivre ce sentier pendant un long moment. Il va monter, descendre puis arriver à un embranchement de chemin. Prendre celui de droite (ne pas aller vers la route) qui part à travers champs et longe un mur de pierre.
• Une fois arrivé au niveau d’une route goudronnée prendre à droite et suivre ce sentier. Il passe devant plusieurs petites fermes. Prendre à droite au niveau de Jenkinson Place puis à nouveau à droite au niveau de Hudson Place.
• Arrivé à la dernière ferme prendre à gauche le sentier qui part à travers la forêt de Holme et qui long le bord du lac. Suivre ce sentier jusqu’au parking.
