Walk around Lizard point – Cornwall, England

A beautiful and famous walk around Lizard Point to discover the cornish coastline.

Lizard Point walk information:

  • Distance: 11km
  • Duration: 3h
  • Ascent: 208m
  • Level: Easy
  • Car park: Lizard Point National Trust, Helston TR12 7NT, Free car park for National Trust members

During our second day in Cornwall we went for a hike around Lizard Point on the Lizard Peninsula. Lizard Point is the southernmost part of England. This place was recommended to us by Matthieu’s colleague who according to him: “is the most beautiful place in Cornwall”. After some online research we saw that it was possible to do a circular hike of around 10 km from Lizard Point and along the coast to Kynance Cove and then to Church Cove before returning to Lizard Point. Both, Lizard Point and Kynance Cove belong to the National Trust.

On this day of late November we were lucky enough to have the sun with us even though it was a little bit cold. We had some showers but nothing that prevented us from enjoying the scenery. We met a lot of walkers and I think that in summer this place must be overcrowded. On the way we found homemade jam in front of someone house and for £2 we brought back a jar of raspberry jam, which is excellent.

We absolutely loved this hike. The trail overlooks the sea for a long time and offers magnificent views of the Cornish coast. The hike is not very hard but there are some climbs and descents. The path can be quite muddy which can make the walk a little harder. I would say that this hike is accessible for the whole family.

Here are the key steps to do this walk:

  • From Lizard Point National Trust car park turns right on the trail down to Lizard Point. Then just above the shops take the top path that runs along the coast. Continue on this trail until you reach Kynance Cove;
  • On the top of Kynance Cove, you will see a house on the beach; take the path to the right back towards Kynance Cove parking. Then follow on the asphalt road for a little while;
  • Take the pedestrian path on your right across the fields. Follow the trail signs until you reach a village. Continue on the road until you reach a crossroads. Take opposite towards Church Cove. Follow on the road; always take the direction of Church Cove;
  • Arriving at Church Cove take the path to the right that goes up the hill and that passes between the coast and the base of sea rescuers. Follow this path until you reach some houses and a road. Continue on the road then left across fields to Lizard Point.

Have you ever done this hike?

Belle destination

  2. The Lizard is a very beautiful part of Cornwall and relatively unspoiled, but you are correct in thinking that in the summer months it can become very crowded, especially at Kynance Cove when at low tide as it is a spectacular spot for families. Love your photos, you were very lucky with the weather 😀

  3. Tres belle balade. Voilà qui me rappelle ma Bretagne. De nombreux anglais m’avaient fait part de cette ressemblance. Ça donne envie de traverser le Channel pour de nouvelles escapades.
