The city of Sheffield is about 1.5 hours south of Manchester. You have to cross the Peak District National Park to reach it. I had often heard people around me talking about Sheffield but I did not know what to expect when I went to visit this city.

La ville de Sheffield est située à environ 1h30 au sud de Manchester. Il faut traverser le parc national de Peak District pour la rejoindre. J’avais souvent entendu les gens autour de moi parler de Sheffield mais je ne savais pas bien à quoi m’attendre en allant visiter cette ville.

One Saturday morning we decided to go to visit Sheffield. We started with the botanical garden, which is located outside the city centre. The botanical garden opened in 1836 and covers 19 acres of land. There are large greenhouses to visit, which are free to access. The garden is very well maintained and full of flowers and plants of all colours. It is very pleasant to walk in this park especially that it is not too busy. For photography lovers you will really enjoy it.

Un samedi matin nous décidâmes donc de partir visiter Sheffield. Nous commençâmes par le jardin botanique qui est situé à l’extérieur du centre ville. Le jardin botanique a ouvert ses portes en 1836 et s’étend sur 19 demi-hectares de terres. Il y a de grandes serres à visiter qui sont libres d’accès. Le jardin est très bien entretenu et pleins de fleurs et de plantes de toutes les couleurs. C’est très agréable de se promener dans ce parc surtout qu’il n’est pas trop fréquenté. Pour les amoureux de la photo vous pourrez vraiment vous régaler.

Then we headed towards the city centre of Sheffield. It was lunchtime and we found a great vegetarian / vegan restaurant. The Blue Moon, near the cathedral, looks like a school canteen. Its menu changes every day. The dishes are very well cooked and the cakes exquisite all for a reasonable price. They even serve beers and cider. 

Ensuite nous partîmes en direction du centre ville de Sheffield. C’était l’heure du déjeuner et nous trouvâmes un super bon restaurant végétarien/ végétalien. Le Blue Moon, proche de la cathédrale, a un air de cantine d’école. Son menu change tous les jours. Les plats sont très bien cuisinés et les gâteaux exquis le tout pour un prix raisonnable. Ils servent même des bières et du cidre.

We began the afternoon by visiting the cathedral where we could listen a monk playing the organ. Then we wandered in the streets towards the Winter Garden. The winter garden, opened in 2003, is a large glasshouse that includes about 2000 plants from around the world. In the winter garden there is also the Millenium Gallery. This museum has a small collection of paintings and other historical objects.

Nous commençâmes l’après-midi par visiter la cathédrale où nous pûmes écouter un moine jouer de l’orgue. Puis nous déambulâmes dans les rues de Sheffield en direction du Winter garden. Le winter garden ouvert en 2003 est une large verrière qui regroupe environ 2000 plantes qui viennent du monde entier. Dans le winter garden se trouve aussi la Millenium Gallery qui regroupe des collections de tableaux et autres objets historiques.

Then we continued our walk in the streets until reaching the town hall and the shopping streets. Sheffield is very popular on Saturdays, the shops and pubs are full and the city centre is very much like Manchester. 

Ensuite, nous continuâmes notre promenade dans les rues jusqu’à arriver devant la mairie et les rues commerçantes. Sheffield est très populaire, le samedi, les magasins et les pubs sont remplis et le centre-ville ressemble beaucoup à Manchester.

In conclusion, we enjoyed the botanical garden and the winter garden. But the city is quite small and there is not much to do except shopping.

En conclusion, nous avons bien aimé le jardin botanique et le winter garden. Mais la ville est assez petite et il n’y a pas grand chose à faire excepté faire les magasins.
