Comme je vous l’ai dit dans mes précédents articles sur la Catalogne, j’ai vécu en 2013, 5 mois à Barcelone. Dans cet article j’avais envie de vous parler de Barcelone et ce n’était pas possible de le faire sans mentionner les noms d’Eusebi Güell et Antoni Gaudí.

Eusebi Güell qui était un industriel catalan rencontra l’architecte catalan Antoni Gaudí en 1878. Cette date fut le début une belle amitié mais surtout d’une collaboration artistique qui façonna la ville de Barcelone et qui attire de nos jours des touristes du monde entier venu découvrir les œuvres d’Antoni Gaudí.

Eusebi Güell fut le mécénat d’Antoni Gaudí pendant de nombreuses années et lui commanda plusieurs propriétés qui sont visibles à Barcelone parmi celle-ci les plus connues sont le Parc Güell, le Palais Güell et le Palais de Pedralbes. Mais Antoni Gaudí a également construit d’autres bâtiments avant et après sa collaboration avec Eusebi Güell tel que la Casa Vicens et la Sagrada Familia. Sept des œuvres de Gaudí ont été classé au patrimoine mondial de l’UNESCO.

Malgré mes 5 mois passés à Barcelone, je n’ai pas eu l’occasion de voir toutes les œuvres de Gaudí. Je vais donc vous présenter celle que j’ai vu.

Le Parc Güell :

Situé sur une colline au Sud de Barcelone, le Parc Güell fut construit entre 1900 et 1914 sur la demande de Güell qui voulait créer une cité-jardin. En 1923 le parc devient la propriété de la ville de Barcelone et en 1984 fut inscrit à l’UNESCO. Ce parc d’une superficie de 17 hectares est avant tout un jardin avec quelques bâtiments qui auraient dû être des maisons.

Il faut une bonne demi journée pour visiter la totalité du parc et pour profiter pleinement de sa richesse. Les structures présentent à l’intérieur du parc sont absolument magnifiques et la vue sur Barcelone est exceptionnelle.

Lors de ma visite en 2013, le parc était gratuit d’accès mais à cause du nombre de plus en plus grand de visiteurs l’entrée est maintenant payante.

Le Palais Güell :

Le Palais Güell a été construit entre 1886 et 1891 sur une superficie de 500 mètre carrés. Ce palais contient une vingtaine de cheminées aux formes toutes originales qui permettent d’aérer le palais. Il est situé en plein centre de Barcelone vers Las Ramblas et fut le domicile d’Eusebi Güell pendant 20 ans. L’intérieur réparti sur plusieurs étages est richement décoré et assez sombre. Ce qui m’a le plus marqué sont les cheminées sur le toit. L’entrée est payante et se fait à heure fixe. Il faut réserver en avance pour être sur d’avoir de la place.

La Casa Milà:

La Casa Milà, situé sur le Passeig de Gràcia, est un hôtel particulier qu’il est possible de visiter ce que je n’ai pas fait. A la place j’ai juste pris quelques photos de la façade extérieure. Elle a été construite entre 1906 et 1910 et est assez atypique à cause de sa façade arrondie et ses balcons en fer forgé aux formes irrégulière.

La Sagrada Familia :

La Sagrada Familia est l’œuvre la plus connue de Gaudí. Commencé en 1882 par Gaudí la basilique de Barcelone devrait être fini en 2026. Je n’ai pas visité l’intérieur de la Sagrada Familia mais l’extérieur est tout de même exceptionnel à voir. Les détails sont impressionnants et il est facile de comprendre pourquoi elle n’est toujours pas finie. C’est une œuvre absolument époustouflante.

Connaissez vous les œuvres d’Antoni Gaudí ?

As I told you in my previous articles about Catalonia, I lived in 2013, 5 months in Barcelona. In this article I wanted to talk about Barcelona and it was not possible to do it without mentioning the names of Eusebi Güell and Antoni Gaudí.

 Eusebi Güell who was a Catalan industrialist met the Catalan architect Antoni Gaudí in 1878. This date was the beginning of a beautiful friendship but especially of an artistic collaboration that shaped the city of Barcelona and which today attracts tourists from all over the world coming to Barcelona to discover the works of Antoni Gaudí.

Eusebi Güell was the sponsor of Antoni Gaudí for many years and he ordered several properties that are visible in Barcelona among them the most known are the Park Güell, the Palace Güell and the Palace of Pedralbes. But Antoni Gaudí also built other buildings before and after his collaboration with Eusebi Güell such as the Casa Vicens and the Sagrada Familia. Seven of Gaudí’s works have been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Despite my 5 months spent in Barcelona, ​​I did not have the opportunity to see all the works of Gaudí. So I will speak only about the ones I saw.

The Park Güell:

Located on a hill south of Barcelona, ​​the Park Güell was built between 1900 and 1914 at the request of Güell who wanted to create a garden-city. In 1923 the park became the property of the city of Barcelona and in 1984 was registered in the UNESCO. This park of 17 hectares is primarily a garden with some buildings that should have been houses.

It takes a good half-day to visit the entire park and to take full advantage of its beauty. The structures in the park are absolutely amazing and the view over Barcelona is exceptional.

During my visit in 2013, the park was free of access but because of the increasing number of visitors the entrance is now paying.

 The Palace Güell: 

The Palace Güell was built between 1886 and 1891 on an area of ​​500 square meters. This palace contains about twenty chimneys with original shapes that allow ventilating the palace. It is located in the centre of Barcelona near Las Ramblas and was the home of Eusebi Güell for 20 years. The interior spread over several floors is richly decorated and quite dark. What struck me the most are the chimneys on the roof. The entrance is paid and is done at a fixed time. You must book in advance to be sure to have a place.

 The Casa Mila: 

The Casa Milà, located on the Passeig de Gràcia, is a mansion that you can visit but I did not do. Instead I just took some pictures of the exterior facade. It was built between 1906 and 1910 and is rather unusual because of its rounded facade and wrought iron balconies with irregular shapes.

The Sagrada Familia:

The Sagrada Familia is Gaudí’s most famous work. Started in 1882 by Gaudí the basilica of Barcelona should be finished in 2026. I have not visited the interior of the Sagrada Familia but the outside is still exceptional to see. The details are impressive and it’s easy to understand why it’s still not finished. It’s an absolutely breathtaking work.
