When we moved to Cumbria, seven years ago, we rented a house in the little village of Seaton on the edge of Workington town. It is in this house that we spent the Covid lockdown and as such we had the opportunity to walk all the paths around that village and Camerton village.

Since moving to Whitehaven a few kilometres away, we still regularly go walking in that area. Recently, I realised that I didn’t write a blog post about these walks that are less popular as they are outside the Lake District National Park but are nevertheless lovely and perfect at any seasons.

There are a lot of paths in that area that allow to create several walks and I decided to present these two. They both start from the lower part of Seaton village, on the shore of the river Derwent. The longer walk, will use the old railway that has been converted into a bicycle path to pass through Seaton and Camerton villages before again following the river Derwent. They allow to discover the beauty of this river but also offer great view on the South of Scotland and the summit of the Lake District National Park in the distance. It is an area that deserve to be explored if you visit this part of Cumbria.

I think there are many nice areas outside the boundary of the National Park. Good for walks while avoiding the crowds

Yes absolutely. We also like to go to South of Scotland during the summer months to avoid the crowds.

I went to the Lake District a long time ago, I remember very nice landscapes but not the name of the little town.
Seaton and Camerton areas are so amazing for walking !

There are so many nice little villages in the area that it can be hard to remember all the names. These two are not touristic.

I’ve been to Workington a few times in the past – I usually get my fuel from Asda the day before I come home – but I’ve never been to these areas. This looks likes two nice walks and I love the second and third photos 😊

Thank you Eunice. They are very close to the Asda in Workington. You can even see the Asda from the longer path. Maybe next time you are around you can stop by and try one.

This looks very pretty. As Mick says, there are often walks outside the busy areas in the Park which are just as nice.

Love the old stone bridge, it’s charmingly wonky. The old churchyard and graves look very interesting too; love a good old graveyard!

The graveyard is very nice in spring with all the daffodils and wildflowers. It is also by the river, which has its charm.

I love the old stone bridge blending beautifully with the surrounding environment. They always make my mind travel to the eras of elves and fairies. This looks like a wonderful walk. Thanks for sharing, and have a good day 🙂 Aiva xx
