Since beginning of this year I have been trying to do a posts every three months to summarise what happened in our life. So this blog post is a summary of what happened in our life from July to September 2024.
Read January to March 2024 summary here. Read April to June 2024 summary here.

Personal Life:
Vie Personnelle:
The weather during this summer hasn’t been great here in Cumbria so we haven’t managed to go for some wild swimming. We did some walks and barbecues at our friends but we haven’t been able to really enjoy evenings in the garden as the previous years. We fortunately went to France end of July for two weeks and half to enjoy some needed sun.

Walking:
Randonnées:
We have done some nice walks in France and in UK during the summer months some of which are already on the blog and others that I need to write. They are mainly the walks we did during our holiday in France.
- Walk around Sale Fell
- Walk Keswick old railway line
- Walk Newtown Knott from Ravenglass
- Walk Elterwater and Loughrigg tarn
- France – walk in the marais of Fresnier

Travelling:
Voyages:
After travelling a bit during spring months and visiting Windsor, St Andrews and York areas, we enjoyed more travelling during summer with a weekend in Glasgow and two weeks and half in France. We also went for small little road trips within our county.

Blogging:
Blogging:
I am proud of myself as I have been able to publish a blog post nearly every week during summer months. This is mainly because Marcus is now napping in the afternoon so I can have a bit of time for myself. I have managed to write all about our spring adventures and most of our summer ones. I only need to write about our French holidays. I have also published all my walks (in french and english version) on Visorando website. Now I just need to finish updating my blog.
See my Visorando profile here.

Books and TV:
Livres et TV:
I have been mainly listening to audiobooks. I have managed to listen to two books. Here the list in reading order.
- Abroad in Japan: ten years in the land of the rising sun by Chris Broad
- The Dark Tide by Simon McCleave

Blog discoveries:
Découverte de blogs:
Finally I am sharing some great blog posts written by fellow bloggers in the past three months.
- I have discovered this new walking/outdoor adventures blog Treks, Trails and Travel written by E.J
- and also discovered a new french literature blog Light & Smell (FR only). I am hoping it will motivate me to read more.
- I have enjoyed following Jim and his wife walking the Bisse du torrent neuf in Switzerland
- and Mike and his family discovering a bit of Wales
- Finally, I travelled to Chypre with Marion (FR only),
- to Iceland with Suzanne and Pierre,
- to Valencia with Jo and her family
- and to Northern Ireland with Anabel and her husband.
Let’s see what Autumn will bring !!!

It sounds like a good year, in spite of the weather, Melodie. Many thanks for the mention and I wish you and your family a happy end of year.

We didn’t manage to do a lot of things. Always nice to write it down to really appreciate what we did.
Thank you to you too but I am sure we will discuss via our blog before the end of the year 🙂.

A great photo of the Kelpies, I love it. I’ve been wanting to visit them for several years now but still not managed to get there.

Thank you Eunice. You need to plan a trip to see them. Maybe in 2025 😉.

When you write it all down like that it does sound like a busy and varied few months. Well done on writing all those posts!

I know, I didn’t really realised until writing this post. We had some great adventures as a family.
Thank you I am trying to keep that habit now.

That’s a nice summary Mél and thank you for the mention. You do well to write every week, I try for every other week but don’t always manage that. And I’ve got website envy looking at your site ! 😀 I keep thinking of having an overhaul of mine but I’m constrained by my own lack of knowledge and the thought of spending weeks trying to get it how I would want puts me off. I may use some of your ideas though 😀

Thank you Jim. I still have a bit of work to do to update all the maps, pages, links and posts hopefully it will be done by next summer. I don’t put to much pressure on myself as it is not my job and like yourself I am not an expert in WordPress. It does take a long time to update everything. My problem was that I kept changing layout so now that I think I have a good layout for my posts, I need to make all of them consistent. I could leave it like that but my brain is telling that I need all the posts with the same layout 😂😂.

Yes I know what you mean, it all takes time and there always seems to be something to update or needs changing 😂 I do like the post grids on your home page, I’ve tried some different themes but it’s such a steep learning curve I think sometimes it’s best to leave things as they are and just concentrate on trying to provide good content.

I am using the free wordpress themes Toujours. I am wondering if I should have more a static home page instead of the post grids.

Definitely a busy month. You do well getting out and about with a young lad. Make the most of him being young 🙂 . I’m looking forward to reading about your holiday in France. It’s been far too long since we were there. For many years we had our main holiday in Western France – Normandy, Brittany, the Charente , Perigord and the south west coast near Perpignan. And we sometimes used to go to Northern France for an autumn break too!

He loves being outdoors if we are a bit late in the morning to go out he shows us the front door to tell us that it is time to go out of the house 😂. And Skye is also very happy with that.
You know more of France than me ☺️. I used to spend all my summers as a child camping near Perpignan. My dad now lives in Cap d’agde which is not too far.
I hope you will enjoy my post about France.

And I think you’ve seen more of GB than me – and I’ve been around a LOT longer than you 😂 (I went watching a Rugby League match in Perpignan (also once in Montpelier) – when Wigan played the Catalan Dragons (yet I’ve never watched one in West Cumbria)

Ahhh thank you so much for the mention! That was a lovely surprise 🙂 It’s nice to share your new finds because it gives us all a chance to find new people too! I’ve loved reading your blog and seeing your walks – it has indeed been a naff summer, but at least you were able to get to France for a bit 🙂

You’re welcome 😁. I agree it is nice to discover new bloggers and travel a bit with them online. The break in France was nice especially as I need some sunshine.

It is great isn’t it! And it gives lots of nice ideas on other places to go yourself that you may not have known about! I agree with your break in France, it’s been such a terrible year for nice weather. I’m hoping if I can buy a van then maybe we could do the same, pop over the channel and get some sunshine! 🙂

A happy, busy time for you! Love that shot of St Andrews in the mist. Well timed to capture the gull making an appearance too.

Thank you. We will have to go back one day as we couldn’t see anything and it was very cold for end of may.

It’s too bad the weather wasn’t the greatest over the summer, but it sounds like you made the most of it. And how fun that you were able to get away as well. Isn’t it amazing how much you’re able to do when your baby actually naps!?!

It is nice indeed to have a 2h slot in the afternoon for myself. As I don’t work on Fridays I like to take that time to read other people blogs.

Just like you, I am blogging when my youngest one naps in the afternoon for a few hours! We had a very wet and cold summer and that’s why this year I didn’t get to enjoy much wild swimming. While my husband braved the elements there was no way I could follow his lead as it was too cold! Now, after such a long break, I have to find the courage to jump into the Atlantic Ocean next year! Thanks for sharing, and have a good day 🙂 Aiva xx

My partner didn’t have the courage to go either. Hopefully next summer. I have found several wild pools on the map that I would like to test ☺️.
Thanks for stopping by Aiva.

Props to you for taking time to write still. I remember trying to run our shooting school while our kids were still young, and I could barely find time to just sit down and watch a 30 minute sitcom. Love reading about your adventures, and glad to see you read the Dark Tide! I love the Angelesey series and can’t wait to read Dead in the Water.
