I have been wanted to visit Ravenglass since we moved to Cumbria. I had read several blog posts from Sharon on her blog Sunshine and Celandines and in particular this one that was talking about Ravenglass and the Eskmeals natural reserve and it had made me wanted to visit this village.

This Saturday, we finally decided to go to Ravenglass even though the weather was a bit uncertain. As we are in January, we easily found some space to park the car on the main street that goes into Ravenglass centre. We didn’t really have a walk in mind when we arrived there so we just decided to follow the signs of the England Coastal Path and to see where it will bring us.

So from Ravenglass we took the direction of Saltcoats, then decided to follow the path until its end on the shore of the river Irt. Currently, there is no means of crossing the river by using the coastal path so we turned back to go back to Ravenglass. Once again in Ravenglass, we decided to explore a little this village before heading back home.

We enjoyed this nice little and easy walk even though some parts were a bit muddy. The view on the river Esk estuary is beautiful and the atmosphere was slightly magical with the mist and sun illuminating the sand and sea.

Cela faisait un moment que je voulais aller visiter Ravenglass. J’avais lu plusieurs articles de Sharon sur son blog Sunshine and Celandines et notamment celui-ci qui parlait de Ravenglass et de la réserve naturelle de Eskmeals qui m’ont donné très envie de visiter ce village.

Ce samedi, nous nous sommes donc motivés malgré un temps un peu incertain à aller à Ravenglass. Vu que nous sommes au mois de Janvier nous avons facilement pu trouver un place le long de la route principale de Ravenglass pour nous garer. Nous n’avions pas vraiment de randonnée en particulier en tête et décidâmes de suivre les panneaux du England Coastal Path et de voir où cela nous amènerait.

Nous sommes donc partis depuis Ravenglass en direction de Saltcoats, puis nous décidâmes de continuer de suivre le coastal path jusqu’à sa fin en bordure de la rivière Irt. A l’heure actuelle, il n’est pas possible de traverser la rivière Irt en suivant le coastal path. Nous repartîmes sur nos pas pour rentrer sur Ravenglass. Une fois de nouveau à Ravenglass nous décidâmes de nous promener un peu dans le village avant de rentrer à la maison.

Nous avons bien aimé cette randonnée qui est très facile même si à certains passages il y avait pas mal de boue. La vue sur l’embouchure de la rivière Esk est très belle et l’atmosphère était un peu féérique en fin de matinée avec la brume et le soleil qui tombaient sur la plage. Nous avons définitivement envie d’y retourner pour explorer la partie sud du coastal path.
