We started this second day in Edinburgh by going up to the top of Arthur Seat. Arthur Seat is an extinct volcano located in the park of Holyrood about 2km from the city centre. The park and the summit are quite easy to access by the path that leaves from the Palace of the Holyroodhouse and Queen’s drive. This is the path that we follow to go down to the Royal Mile as we had taken another one to go up.

Nous commençâmes ce deuxième jour à Edimbourg par monter jusqu’au sommet d’Arthur Seat. Arthur Seat est un ancien volcan éteint situé dans le parc d’Holyrood à environ 2km du centre-ville. Le parc et le sommet sont assez facile d’accès par le sentier qui part du Palais d’Holyroodhouse et Queen’s drive. C’est d’ailleurs ce sentier que nous avons pros pour redescendre vers le Royal Mile ayant pris un autre sentier à l’aller.

The trail is quite muddy, and it is better to wear good shoes. Once at the top, the 360 ​​° view of Edinburgh, Leith and the surrounding area is breathtaking. It’s a really interesting place because we feel like we are in the country while actually being just outside the city. I highly recommend this hike if the weather allows it.

Le sentier est assez boueux donc de bonnes chaussures sont recommandées. Une fois en haut la vue à 360° sur Edimbourg, Leith et les alentours est époustouflante. C’est un endroit vraiment intéressant car nous avons l’impression d’être à la campagne alors que nous sommes juste aux portes de la ville. Je vous recommande fortement cette randonnée si le temps le permet.

When we got back down the summit, we stopped to visit the Queens Gallery palace shop and then observe the exterior of the Scottish Parliament with its modern architecture before wandering in the shops of the Royal Mile.

Une fois redescendu nous nous arrêtâmes visiter le magasin du palais the Queens Gallery puis observer l’extérieur du Parlement Ecossais a l’architecture moderne avant de remonter le Royal Mile en nous arrêtant en route dans certains magasins.

For lunch, we decided to try the vegetarian restaurant David Bann which is one of the best known in Edinburgh. As a starter, I took the gnocchi with pears which I shared with my mother while Matthieu tested their hummus. As a main dish I tested their potato blue and rutabaga gratin, while Matt and my mother had a kind of filo pie stuffed with mushrooms and goat cheese served with polenta fries. All the dishes were well presented and delicious. The swede was a nice culinary discovery for me.

Pour le déjeuner, nous décidâmes de tester le restaurant végétarien David Bann qui est l’un des plus connu d’Édimbourg. Comme entrée je pris des gnocchis aux poires que je partageais avec ma mère pendant que Matthieu testait leur houmous. En plat principal je testais leur gratin de pomme de terre, bleu et rutabaga alors que Matt et ma mère prenaient un genre de tourte farcis aux champignons et fromage de chèvre avec des frites de polenta. Tous les plats étaient bien présents et délicieux. Le rutabaga fut une belle découverte culinaire pour moi.

We then set out again towards the castle and then went to visit the National Museum of Scotland. This free museum is a masterpiece as much for its architecture as for the collection it contains. We only did a small part given its immensity. I will gladly return to discover more.

Nous repartîmes ensuite vers le château puis allâmes visiter le National Museum of Scotland. Ce musée gratuit est un chef d’œuvre autant pour son architecture que pour la collection qu’il contient. Nous n’avons fait qu’une petite partie vu son immensité. J’y retournerai volontiers pour le découvrir plus amplement.

Finally, we ended this day with a little detour to the Christmas market to see the illuminations. Considering the people, we did not stay long. It was a busy day, but it gave my mother the opportunity to have a good overview of this magnificent city. I’m sure we’ll go back to find out more.

Enfin nous avons terminé cette journée par un petit détour par le marché de Noël pour les illuminations. Vu le monde, nous ne sommes pas restés longtemps. Ce fut une journée bien rempli mais qui donna l’opportunité à ma mère d’avoir une belle vue d’ensemble de cette magnifique ville. Je suis d’ailleurs sûre que nous y retournerons pour découvrir plus.
