At the end of November, we went for a hike to the top of Latrigg. We had heard about this summit near Keswick for a while, but we did not have time to go before. Latrigg is well known because it is an easy-to-access and not steep summit which is perfect for a family walk. The hikers often start from Keswick to reach the summit, but I did not really want to start from there and also, I wanted to lengthen it, so I combined 2 or 3 hikes that I had seen on websites to plan this one this. This hike passes by the famous summit of Latrigg then goes through the pastures before joining a small forest with view over Keswick and finally going up towards the car park. Only the part towards Latrigg is frequented but the rest of the walk is not. This hike is perfect for short winter days.

Here are the key steps to do this walk:

  • From the car park take the wide path down to Keswick. Then take the path on the left which goes up towards Latrigg. Continue on this path to the summit. Once at the top of the summit take the path that goes through the pastures. Continue straight to the road.
  • Once on the road, turn right to go down, then directly right on the small path that goes up. This trail passes under the pasture you have just crossed and goes through the forest. Continue straight on this path. Do not go on the asphalt road.
  • At an intersection of paths, turn right to go up to Latrigg and the car park. Follow this path to the car park.

Have you ever done this hike?
