Low level circular walk from Nether Wasdale to Wastwater shore. Gorgeous views of the surrounding valley, summits and Wastwater lake. Possible to stop for a swim in the lake.

Une randonnée circulaire dans la vallée de Nether Wasdale aux rives de Wastwater. De magnifiques vues sur les sommets environnants et le lac de Wastwater. Il est possible de s’arrêter pour nager dans le lac.

We chose this hike because we wanted to go swimming in Wastwater Lake after walking. It is the deepest lake in England and is surrounded by the highest mountains in the Lake District: Red Pike, Kirk Fell, Great Gable and Scafell Pike. It is one of the most beautiful lakes to swim freely but one of the coldest.

Nous avons choisi cette randonnée car nous voulions après avoir marché aller nager dans le lac de Wastwater. C’est le lac le plus profond d’Angleterre et est entouré des montagnes les plus hautes de Lake District: Red Pike, Kirk Fell, Great Gable et Scafell Pike. C’est un des plus beaux lacs pour nager en toute liberté mais un des plus froid.

This hike starts from the village of Nether Wasdale which is located south of the lake. It goes towards the lake, then follows the banks for a moment before leaving through the valley and towards the village. This hike is easy and quite feasible with children. There is just a small part on the road at the end.

Cette randonnée part du village de nether wasdale qui est situé au sud du lac. Elle va en direction du lac, puis suit les berges pendant moment avant de partir à travers la vallée et en direction du village. Cette randonnée est facile et tout à fait faisable avec des enfants. Il y a juste une petite partie sur la route à la fin.

Here are the key steps to do this hike:

Voici les étapes clés pour réaliser cette randonnée:

• From the parking, turn right on the road towards Santon Bridge. Cross the small river and take the path on the left towards Easthwaite Farm. Continue on the path until you reach the farm. Cross the farm and continue straight to the pumping station. From this place the view is absolutely superb.
• Walk back in the opposite direction following the path along the river until you reach a stone bridge.
• Cross the bridge then turn right on the path. Continue on this trail for a while. You will arrive at the foot of the lake, then at Wasdale Hall until you reach the main road. At the level of the road turn left. Walk on the road for a little while until you see a path on the right that goes through the forest.
• Follow this path, pass the first gate and continue straight on the path. You will have to pass several gates and you just have to continue straight on the main path, until you get back on the main road. At the level of the road turn right and follow it until the parking.

• Depuis le parking, prendre à droite sur la route en direction de Santon Bridge. Traverser la petite rivière puis prendre le chemin sur la gauche en direction de Easthwaite Farm. Continuer sur le sentier jusqu’à arriver à la ferme. Traverser la ferme et continuer tout droit jusqu’à la station de pompage. Depuis cet endroit la vue est absolument superbe.
• Repartir en sens inverse en suivant le sentier le long de la rivière jusqu’à arriver à un pont en pierre.
• Traverser le pont puis prendre à droite sur le sentier. Continuer sur ce sentier pendant un bon moment. Vous allez arriver au pied du lac, puis au niveau de Wasdale Hall jusqu’à arriver sur la route principale. Au niveau de la route prendre à gauche. Marcher sur la route pendant un petit moment jusqu’à voir un chemin sur la droite qui part à travers la forêt.
• Suivre ce chemin, passer la première porte et continuer toujours tout droit sur le chemin. Vous allez passer plusieurs portes il faut juste continuer tout droit sur le sentier principal, jusqu’à arriver de nouveau sur la route principale. Au niveau de la route prendre à droite et suivre jusqu’au parking.

After the hike, we took the car and parked at Wasdale Hall where it is possible to access the lakeshore easily. There is like a small beach with picnic tables. An idyllic place to spend the afternoon with family. That day the lake was so warm that we did not need a wetsuit. It was really nice to swim in this lake after hiking I highly recommend it.

Après la randonnée, nous primes la voiture et allâmes nous garer au niveau de Wasdale Hall où il est possible d’accès aux berges du lacs facilement. Il y a comme une petite plage avec des tables de pique-nique. Un endroit idyllique pour passer l’après -midi en famille. Ce jour-là l’eau du lac était tellement chaude que nous n’avons pas eu besoin de combinaison. C’était vraiment agréable de nager dans ce lac après la randonnée je vous le recommande vivement.

I enjoyed this hike because it is easy, accessible, the trail is well indicated and especially because it offers magnificent views of the peaks. The small bathing session at the end is a pleasure.

J’ai bien aimé cette randonnée car elle est facile, accessible, le sentier est bien indiqué et surtout les offre de magnifiques vues sur les pics. La petite session de baignade à la fin est un plus non négligeable.
