Dunham Massey is a former civil parish near Manchester belonging to the National Trust. This huge property contains a park, the villages of Sinderland Green, Dunham Woodhouses and Dunham Town as well as the Dunham Massey Hall.

Sir George Booth built Dunham Massey Hall in 1616. This manor, now open to the public, is full of beautiful objects and richly decorated rooms. The library is particularly spectacular.

Adjoining the manor is a pretty garden bordering by a pond. It is a nice place to walk in good weather and take nice pictures. But the highlight of this place is the deer park that borders the manor. If you are lucky enough you can see them sleeping, eating or even fighting in the undergrowth of the property.

There are also several hikes that start from or go through Dunham Massey and that allow to visit the surrounding countryside unfortunately we haven’t yet had the opportunity to try some of them.

We enjoyed visiting Dunham Massey but it is true that this property is less impressive than its neighbour Tatton Park or the beautiful garden of Quarry Bank Mill. Anyway it is still a pleasant place to walk and its park allows people to see deers quite easily.

Dunham Massey est une ancienne paroisse civile proche de Manchester appartenant au National Trust. Cette immense propriété contient un parc, les villages de Sinderland Green, Dunham Woodhouses and Dunham Town ainsi que le manoir Dunham Massey Hall.

Dunham Massey Hall fut construit en 1616 par Sir George Booth. Ce manoir est maintenant ouvert au public est regorge de magnifiques objets et pièces richement décorés. La bibliothèque est particulièrement spectaculaire.

Adossé au manoir se trouve un joli jardin en bordure d’un étang. C’est un endroit agréable pour se promener par beau temps et prendre de jolies photos. Mais le clou du spectacle est le parc de cerf qui borde le manoir. Si vous avez de la chance vous pourrez les apercevoir en train de se reposer, manger ou même se bagarrer dans les sous-bois de la propriété.

Il y a également plusieurs randonnées qui partent ou passe par Dunham Massey et qui permettent de visiter la campagne environnante malheureusement nous n’avons pas encore eu l’opportunité d’en tester quelques unes.

Nous avons bien aimés visiter Dunham Massey mais c’est vrai que cette propriété est moins impressionnante que sa voisine Tatton Park ou que le magnifique jardin de Quarry Bank Mill. Tout de même il est agréable de se promener dans son parc qui permet d’apercevoir assez facilement les cerfs.
