Pendant mes 5 mois en stage Erasmus à Barcelone j’ai eu la chance de pouvoir visiter la Catalogne pendant mes weekend. Avec mes amis Brésiliens ce weekend la nous avions envi de quitter la frénésie de Barcelone et d’aller faire une randonnée dans les anciens volcans au Nord de la Catalogne dans la région d’Olot.

Olot est un village montagnard à 1h30 de Barcelone. Il est très agréable à visiter surtout quand c’est le jour du marché. Olot est aussi réputé pour son activité artistique et a la principale école d’art de la région de Girona.

Après avoir fait un rapide tour d’Olot, nous décidâmes d’aller nous garer sur l’aire de Can Serra sur la GI524 pour faire la randonnée circulaire qui passe par Fageda d’en Jordà, le volcan Santa Margarita et le volcan Croscat.

Le sentier de randonnée est bien indiqué et offre de magnifique vue sur le volcan Croscat qui est le plus grand volcan de la péninsule Ibérique et le volcan Santa Margarita plus petit mais dont le cratère est accessible aux randonneurs.

La randonnée n’est pas très dure mais il n’y a pas d’eau et il peut faire très chaud.

Suite à la randonnée, nous sommes partis en direction de Santa Pau avant de rentrer sur Barcelone. Santa Pau, est un village médiéval situé dans le parc volcanique de Garrotxa. La spécialité de ce village est de produire de petit haricot appelé Fesols.

Nous avons vraiment aimé cette journée hors du tourisme de masse. Les paysages sont d’une beauté inoubliable.

During my 5 month doing an Erasmus internship in Barcelona I had the chance to visit Catalonia during my weekend. With my Brazilian friends that weekend we wanted to leave the frenzy of Barcelona and go for a hike in the ancient volcanoes in the north of Catalonia in the region of Olot.

Olot is a mountain village at 1h30 from Barcelona. It is very pleasant to visit especially when it is market day. Olot is also famous for its artistic activity and has the main art school of the region of Girona. 

After making a quick tour of Olot, we decided to park in Can Serra area on the GI524 for a circular hike through Fageda d’en Jordà, the Santa Margarita volcano and the Croscat volcano.

 The hiking trail is well signposted and offers magnificent views of the volcano Croscat, which is the largest volcano on the Iberian Peninsula, and the smaller Santa Margarita volcano but whose crater is accessible to hikers.

The hike is not very hard but there is no water on the way and it can get very hot.

Following the hike, we headed towards Santa Pau before returning to Barcelona. Santa Pau, is a medieval village located in the volcanic park of Garrotxa. The specialty of this village is to produce small bean called Fesols.

We really enjoyed this day off the beaten track. The landscapes are of unforgettable beauty.
