This year for Easter we were invited to spend the weekend at a friend’s mother house. So we left on Friday morning to Cardiff with our friends. After 4 hours drive we arrived in the capital of Wales. Cardiff is very well known by rugby fans and it was unthinkable for us to not visit the famous Millennium stadium.

Considering it was time to eat we stopped at the Tiny Rebel Pub. The Tiny Rebel is the pub of the Welsh brewery Tiny Rebel which was born in 2012. Then we continued our afternoon strolling through the streets of Cardiff and especially towards the Castle. Unfortunately it was too late to visit it but we still had the opportunity to see the largest lovespoon in the world. These wooden spoons are usually offered at wedding or birthday to show the love for the person.

The next day we went for a walk on the beach of Llangennith in the area of ​​The Gower. This peninsula is part of the places classified as Area of ​​Outstanding Natural Beauty and is the paradise of surfers. The beach is very beautiful and is accessible after crossing sand dunes. There is a parking just before the dunes, £3 a day (single rate). After a walk on the beach we decided to eat at Mumbles. Mumbles is a well-known seaside resort in Wales and is therefore very crowded. We found a very good tea room (with vegetarian option) the Mad Hatter’s for lunch. Then our friends absolutely wanted to bring us to taste Joe’s ice cream and gourmand as we are we could not resist. Our ice cream in hand, we went for a walk in the village and along the promenade.

On Sunday, the weather was rainy and between two lulls we visited the village of Hay-on-Wye. This village is known for its books festival every year in June and therefore has the nickname of town of books. Indeed, there are about 12 new and second hand bookstores and the atmosphere of this city is charming. Following this walk we decided to stop in the national park of Brecon beacons and in particular to see the waterfalls of Ystradfellte. Unfortunately, as soon as we arrived, it started to rain so we had to turn back and go home.

We had a great weekend in Wales and definitely want to go back for hiking in the Brecon Beacons National Park.

Cette année pour pâques nous avons été invité à passer le weekend chez la mère d’un ami. Nous sommes donc partis le vendredi matin en direction de Cardiff avec nos amis. Après 4h de route nous sommes arrivés dans la capitale du Pays de Galles. Cardiff est très connue par les amateurs de rugby et il était impensable pour nous de ne pas aller voir le fameux Millennium stadium.

Vu que c’était l’heure de manger où nous sommes arrêtés au pub the Tiny Rebel. Le Tiny Rebel est le pub de la brasserie galloise Tiny Rebel qui vu le jour en 2012. Puis nous continuâmes notre après midi à déambuler dans les rues de Cardiff et notamment vers le Château de Cardiff. Malheureusement il était trop tard pour le visiter mais nous avons quand même eu l’opportunité de voir la plus grande cuillère (lovespoon) au monde. Ces cuillères en bois sont en général offertes lors de mariage ou anniversaire pour montrer son amour pour la personne.

Le lendemain, nous sommes allés faire un tour sur la plage de Llangennith dans la zone de The Gower. Cette péninsule fait partie des endroits classés comme Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty et est le paradis des surfeurs. La plage est très belle est accessible après avoir traverser des dunes de sables. Il y a un parking juste avant les dunes, £3 la journée (tarif unique). Après une promenade sur la plage nous avons décidé d’aller manger à Mumbles. Mumbles est une station balnéaire très réputé au Pays de Galles et est donc très fréquenté. Nous avons trouvé un très bon salon de thé (avec option végétarienne) le Mad hatter’s pour le déjeuner. Puis nos amis voulaient absolument nous faire gouter aux glaces de chez Joe’s et gourmand comme nous sommes nous n’avons pas pu résister. Nos glaces en main, nous sommes partis nous promener dans le village et le long de la promenade.

Le dimanche, le temps était pluvieux et entre deux accalmies nous avons visité le village de Hay-on-Wye. Ce village est connu pour son festival de livres tous les ans en juin et porte donc le surnom de town of books (la ville des livres). En effet, il y a environ 12 magasins de livres neuf et d’occasion et l’atmosphère de cette ville est charmante. Suite à cette balade nous avons décidé de s’arrêter dans le parc national de Brecon beacons et notamment d’aller voir les cascades de Ystradfellte. Malheureusement à peine arrivée sur place il se mit à pleuvoir donc nous dûmes rebrousser chemin et rentrer à la maison.

Nous avons passé un excellent weekend au pays de galles et nous avons définitivement envie d’y retourner pour faire des randonnées dans le parc national de Brecon beacons.
