Helsinki Highlights: A Year of Nordic Life and Island Adventures

Thinking of exploring the “Happiest Country in the World”? Our Finnish journey began back in 2011, when Matthieu spent a full year as an Erasmus student at the University of Law in Helsinki. This immersion into life in Finland allowed us to see the capital through a local lens rather than just as tourists. During my visits to join him, we spent our holidays uncovering the unique charm of Helsinki, from its modern design to its deep-rooted traditions.

One of our absolute favourite spots was Suomenlinna Island, a sea fortress and UNESCO World Heritage site just a short ferry ride from the city centre. Whether you are curious about the Erasmus student experience in Finland or looking for the best things to do on a Helsinki city break, our posts cover it all — including our memorable side trip across the Baltic to Tallinn, Estonia.
