Discovering Dubwath Silver Meadows Nature Reserve – Bassenthwaite, Cumbria, England

Dubwath Silver Meadows is nice little nature reserve near Bassenthwaite in Cumbria. It is a great place to spend a couple of hours in family. The path is pushchair friendly and it is also dog-friendly.

Dubwath Silver Meadows est une petite reserve naturelle proche de Bassenthwaite en Cumbria. C’est un endroit très sympa pour passer quelques heures en famille. Le sentier est accessible aux poussettes et aux chiens.

Two weeks ago, I decided to go visit Dubwath Silver Meadows Nature Reserve. I had read some times ago a blog post by Shazza in which she was mentioning her lunch at the Bassenthwaite train station and that she wanted to see the nature reserve during a next trip. I hadn’t heard of that nature reserve before so I immediately added it to my list of place to visit.

Il y a deux semaines, j’ai décidé d’aller visiter la réserve naturelle de Dubwath Silver Meadows. J’avais lu il y a quelques temps un article de Shazza dans lequel elle mentionnait qu’elle était allé mangé au restaurant de Bassenthwaite train station et qu’une prochaine fois elle irait visiter cette réserve. Vu que je n’avais jamais entendu parlé de cette réserve, je l’ai immédiatement ajouté à ma liste d’endroits à visiter.

Dubwath Silver Meadows Nature Reserve is situated right opposite to the Bassenthwaite train station restaurant. It is opened all year around and is dog a pram friendly. It is maintained by a group of volunteers called the Friends of Dubwath Silver Meadows. The visit is free and there is a donation box at the entrance.

Dubwath Silver Meadows Nature Reserve est situé en face du restaurant Bassenthwaite train station. La réserve est ouverte toute l’année et est accessible aux poussettes et chiens. L’endroit est maintenu par un groupe de volontaires appelé les amis de Dubwath Silver Meadows. L’accès est gratuit et il y a une boite pour des donations à l’entrée.

Hut

The circular trail is a bit less than 2 km. The reserve is composed of different type of habitats such as wetlands and drylands. There are also some little huts to stop, hide and observe the birds. It has some nice views on the surrounding fells. The only negative point is the noise coming from the A66. It is a nice little reserve for a stroll in family.

Le sentier circulaire fait un peu moins de 2km. La réserve contient différents habitats comme des zones humides et sèches. Il y a quelques petites cabanes pour s’arrêter, et observer les oiseaux. La réserve a de belles vues sur les montagnes environnantes. Le seul point négatif c’est le bruit de la nationale A66. C’est un endroit très agréable pour une petite promenade en famille.
