Visit of Trentham garden, Staffordshire, England

Mid-July my company organised as every year a camping weekend in the south part of Peak District. Last year we visited The Heights of Abraham in Derbyshire. This year we chose to visit Trentham Garden and Monkey Forest. These two places are part of the Trentham Estate which also contains a shopping village. It takes the full day to visit everything.

Read about our visit of The Heights of Abraham here.

The garden is composed of several small gardens such as the rose garden, or the Italian garden and even a plant maze. There is also a lake at its centre and lots of playgrounds for children. To finish the garden contains plenty of fairy and animal statues hidden everywhere for the greatest happiness of the whole family. All the different gardens are very beautiful with a relaxing atmosphere that also makes you want to discover every nook and cranny of this area. In summer, there are also open-air concerts. We spent the morning wandering in the garden by following the paths according to our desires.

In the early afternoon we went to see the monkeys at the Monkey Forest, which is right at the end of the garden. The monkeys of Berber origins are free to roam in their huge fenced park. It is possible to see them very closely while respecting of course their personal space. Every hour, the park staffs feed them and explain to visitors the history of their monkeys and the park. The cutest was certainly the little baby monkey who was walking on the back of its dad. After this moment of tenderness, we left the park to go for a walk in the shopping village which contains around thirty shops of all kinds before heading back to the campsite.

The Monkey Forest is definitely a place for children while parents may prefer the beauty of the garden and its many plants. The whole family will have a good day. In any case we loved that place.

Do you know the Trentham Estate?
