Lyme Park is a wide property, which includes a park, a garden and a mansion, located in Stockport on the edge of Peak District. This property belongs to the National Trust since 1947. In this article, I want to talk about two things you can do in Lyme Park but of course there are many others.

Le Lyme parc est une immense propriété qui comprend un parc, un jardin et un manoir à visiter situé à Stockport à la limite du Parc national de Peak District. Ce domaine fait parti du National Trust depuis 1947. Il vous faudra donc payer le parking et l’entrée manoir/jardin si vous souhaitez le visiter et que vous n’êtes pas membre. Dans cet article je voulais vous parler de deux activités que vous pouvez faire dans ce parc mais bien évidemment il y en a plein d’autres.

The mansion, owned by the Legh family for over 600 years, was the location of films shooting such as Pride and Prejudice (1995) Forsyte Saga (2002), The Awakening (2011) and The Village (2014). The interior is richly decorated with furniture left by the former owners. The dimensions of each room of the manor and the sculptures on the furniture, ceiling and walls are breathtaking. The details are really magnificent. It’s a cozy place, worth visiting for learning more about the aristocratic life at that time.

Le manoir, appartenant à la famille Legh pendant plus de 600 ans, a été le lieu de tournage de plusieurs films tels que : Pride and Prejudice (1995), Forsyte saga (2002), The Awakening (2011) et The Village (2014). L’intérieur est richement décoré avec les meubles laissés par les anciens propriétaires. Les dimensions de chaque pièces du manoir ainsi que les sculptures sur les meubles, plafonds et murs sont à couper le souffle. Nous ne savions plus où regarder tellement il y a de détails à voir. C’est une maison accueillante, intéressante à visiter pour avoir un aperçu de la vie d’aristocrate à cette époque.

The garden consists of a maze of flowers, a rose garden, an orange grove and a pond. The walk through the garden lasts about 1:30 and is very nice especially in spring when the flowers bloom. It’s a beautiful place to take pictures, relax and enjoy the sun when it is among us.

Le jardin est composé d’un labyrinthe de fleurs, d’une roseraie, d’une orangeraie et d’un étang. La balade dans le jardin dure environ 1h30 et est très agréable surtout au printemps quand les fleurs fleurissent. C’est un bel endroit pour prendre des photos, se relaxer et profiter du soleil quand il est parmi nous.

The park is huge and very popular on sunny days. Families love to come strolling, eating with friends and playing all kinds of ball games. It’s also a great place for hiking. The Office of the National Trust will give you a detailed map with walking ideas. Here is a very nice walk especially to have a beautiful view of Manchester and its surroundings.

Le parc est immense et très populaire lors des beaux jours. Les familles adorent venir ce promener, faire des pique niques entre amis et jouer à toutes sortes de jeux de balles. C’est également un endroit idéal pour faire de la randonnée. L’office du National Trust vous donnera un plan détaillé avec des idées de promenades. En voici une très agréable surtout pour avoir une vue sur Manchester et ses environs.

It starts from the car park at the foot of the manor and takes about 3 hours (8km).

Elle part du parking au pied du manoir et dure environ 3h (8km).

• Cross the car park (opposite the office of the National Trust, to the woods), pass the gate that leads to Gritsone Trail. Follow this path until to meet another gate. You will go through the forest by the lower path;
• At the other door (the forest should be behind you and lands in front of you) turn left to follow the Gritstone Trail. Follow this path for a while. You should follow a stonewall on your left;
• At the top of a hill you will see two stairs one after the other on the left. Cross the stairs and you will find yourself again in the property of Lyme Park (the stonewall should now be on your right). Walk through the forest and continue on this path until you reach another wall in front of you. Cross the wall (you will find yourself again in the fields) and go left. Walk along the wall to go down onto the road to the East Lodge. You should see the Cage (old tower) in front of you;
• Go up the hill and head to the Cage for a magnificent view of Manchester;
• From The Cage return to the Lyme Hall and parking.

• Traversez le parking (opposé de l’office du National Trust, vers les bois), passez le portillon qui mène au Gritsone Trail. Suivre ce chemin jusqu’à rencontrer un autre portillon. Vous allez traverser la forêt par le chemin du bas.
• Arrivez à un autre portillon (forêt derrière vous, des plaines en face de vous) prenez à gauche pour suivre le Gritstone Trail. Suivre ce chemin pendant un bon moment. Un mur de pierre doit être sur votre gauche tout le long de ce chemin.
• Arrivez en haut d’une colline vous verrez deux escaliers l’un à la suite de l’autre sur votre gauche. Passez ces deux escaliers pour vous retrouver à nouveau dans la propriété du Lyme parc (le mur de pierre doit ainsi se trouver sur votre droite). Traversez la forêt et continuez sur ce chemin jusqu’à arriver à un autre muret en face de vous. Traversez ce muret (vous allez vous retrouvez à nouveau dans les champs) et prenez sur votre gauche. Longer le muret jusqu’à redescendre vers la route qui mène au East Lodge. Vous devez apercevoir the Cage (ancienne tour) en face de vous.
• Descendez la colline et dirigez vous vers the Cage pour avoir une magnifique vue sur Manchester.
• Depuis the Cage redescendez vers the Lyme Hall et le parking.
