Walks in Cumbria

Cumbria is a great county to live or spend holiday for walkers, nature lovers and bird watchers. Cumbria is home to the Lake District National Park (a UNESCO world heritage site) and contains a part of the Yorkshire Dales National Park and of the North Pennines AONB. It is also very dog-friendly and a great place to observe birds within its five RSPB nature reserve (Campfield Marsh, Geltsdale, Haweswater, Hodbarrow and St Bees Head).

Since moving to the North West coast of Cumbria in 2018, we have been slowly discovering this great county. We have compiled a list of walks that we did, firstly as a couple, then since 2021 with our dog Skye and since 2023 with our son.

You can find all the walks either by directly selecting the link in the map or by searching in the list of blog posts below. Most of them are dog friendly but dog will need to be on lead when crossing fields with livestock. Additionally, you will be able for each walk to download a PDF with clear guidance and GPX file by visiting our page on the walking website Visorando. A link specific to the PDF of the walk is also provided in each blog post.

Find PDF and GPX files of our walks on Visorando website.
